Korn Ferry Tour Odds: Albertsons Boise Open Analysis and Preview

For professional golfers who have not yet made it to the PGA Tour or who have qualified in the past but have not won enough FedExCup points to stay there, the Korn Ferry Tour is the developmental tour. At the end of each season, the top 30 players in the Korn Ferry Tour earn PGA Tour cards for the next year. The Korn Ferry Tour playoffs begin this year with the Albertsons Boise Open, set for Hillcrest Country Club in Boise, Idaho, from August 24-27. Keep reading to plan your Korn Ferry Tour Odds.

This week’s field contains 156 players; each week in the four-week playoffs, the field will shrink, from 156 down to 75 by the last event. Will Gordon is the defending champion of the Albertsons Boise Open after beating Phillip Knowles and MJ Daffue in a playoff last year. He finished at 21 under par to take his first and (to this point) only Korn Ferry Tour title. What can we expect this year? Let’s break down the course and go over some other insights that should help you make your Korn Ferry Tour betting choice for this week’s event.

The Hillcrest Country Club opened as an 18-hole track in 1958 and has hosted the Boise Open since the tournament began in 1990. The course runs 6,825 yards as a par-71 layout. This is one of the shorter courses in the Korn Ferry Tour’s rotation, but the designers have accounted for that by tightening the fairways with mature trees. Even so, the average winning score since 2018 has fallen nearly 20 below par, which means that the winning player will start attacking the course from the first hole on Thursday.

Of the three par-5 holes, only one is longer than 550 yards, which means that an accurate driver and a solid approach could have golfers looking at eagle putts. Only one par-3 hole is shorter than 190 yards, though, leaving some potential tragedy for players whose long irons are a cause for concern. With five par-4 holes running shorter than 410 yards (and one running just 294 yards), this is definitely a course that will bring on attacks.

Water comes into play on three different holes on the front nine, and a river courses through the back nine. This makes accuracy even more important. The pros will play the reverse layout from what members play, so one of the par-4 holes becomes an intriguing, steep uphill, and that 294-yard hole becomes a driveable green.

There are only two players in the Korn Ferry Tour’s top ten points list who are not participating – Adiren Dumont de Chassart (#6), as he sewed up his PGA Tour card for 2024 by finishing T11 at the Magnit Championship last week, along with Nicholas Lindheim (#10).

For those players sitting close to the Top 30 in the points list, the drama will increase with each passing week. These tournaments award more points than the events earlier in the season, and the purses are also larger. The projected Top 30 standings will almost change from one hole to the next, filling these next four weeks with suspense. Players who have something to lose (or gain) by sitting right by the 30th spot include Cody Blick (#26), Brett Drewitt (#27), Logan McAllister (#28), John VanDerLaan (#29) and Greyson Murray (#30). Just on the wrong side of the line, you’ll find Taylor Dickson (#31), Chase Seiffert (#32), Roger Sloan (#33), Matt McCarty (#34), and Chris Gotterup (#35). The standings are significantly compressed at this point, as the Murray and Gotterup are only 38 points apart.
