2019 Wimbledon Round 2 Betting Predictions & Preview

Wednesday July 3

Yulia Putintseva vs Viktorija Golubic (6:00am ET)

Viktorija Golubic defeated Iga Swiatek in straight sets in their first-round matchup, winning 6-2, 7-6 (3). She picked up six breaks, most of them in the first set, and converted all of her break points. Her serve was not as dominant, as she only won 60 percent of her service games. She will need to serve more effectively if she wants to get past Putintseva, who enters with a full head of steam in terms of momentum. Yulia Putintseva should not have shocked too many observers with her win over Naomi Osaka, as she had beaten her in both of their prior meetings ahead of Wimbledon, but taking down the second seed is still a major coup. She took advantage of Osaka’s problems with her backhand, and she won the first set in a tiebreaker but then broke through Osaka with a 6-2 win in the second set. Putintseva has been solid on grass, getting to the quarterfinals of the Birmingham Classic, and she looks like the stronger player here too. 2019 Wimbledon Betting Prediction: Putintseva wins in straight sets

Felix Auger-Aliassime vs Corentin Moutet (7:00am ET)

Corentin Moutet needed five sets to take down Grigor Dimitrov in their opening round matchup. Dimitrov win the first two sets, but then Moutet roared back to take the win, an impressive result against a former ATP tournament champion. Moutet is only 20 years old, so this sort of mental stamina is extremely impressive. Moutet also made the third round at the French Open and was the runner-up at the Challenger Lyon. Auger-Aliassime is the 19-seed at Wimbledon, so Moutet will have his work cut out for him. Auger-Aliassime comes in riding a four-match winning streak. In his opening-round win, he dropped the first set but then won the next three, winning 41 percent of his return points and breaking his opponent’s serve six times. He also dominated with his own serve, winning 90 percent of his service games. Auger-Aliassime has played well heading into Wimbledon as well, making the semifinals of the Queen’s Club Championship and the finals at the Stuttgart Open and the Lyon Open. Auger-Aliassime has won the only matchup between these two players, beating Moutet at Challenger Lyon in 2018 in straight sets. So given the strength Moutet has shown recently, Auger-Aliassime looks like the pick here. 2019 Wimbledon Betting Prediction: Auger-Aliassime wins in four sets

Stan Wawrinka vs Reilly Opelka

Reilly Opelka won his first Wimbledon men’s match ever in the first round this year, taking down Cedrik-Marcel Stebe on Monday in straight sets, 6-3, 7-6, 6-1. Opelka is currently ranked #63 on the ATP World Tour and won the New York Open in February. He posted 11 aces on Monday and won 78 percent of his first serve points. Now he faces Stan Wawrinka in the second round — the 22-seed. Can he win again? Wawrinka has not played well at Wimbledon in several years. He went to the quarterfinals in 2014 and 2015, but he left in the second round in 2016 and 2018 and lost in the opening round in 2017. He has not won a Grand Slam since the 2016 U.S. Open and has not made a final since the 2017 French Open. He is 20-13 in 2019, while Opelka is 12-12. Is Opelka primed for the upset? We say yes. 2019 Wimbledon Betting Prediction: Opelka wins in four sets
