Stanley Cup Odds and Analysis 2 Weeks before 2023 NHL Playoffs

Stanley Cup Odds and Analysis 2 Weeks before 2023 NHL Playoffs

Written by on March 28, 2023

The Los Angeles Kings are surging right now, with a 10-0-2 record in their last 12 games. Vegas and Dallas haven’t shown much interest in securing control of the Western Conference lead, so the Kings are now just two points back of Vegas for the top spot in the West. The Kings are actually in a pretty good spot as far as taking the lead goes. They play Calgary on Tuesday, followed by Edmonton (twice), Vegas, Seattle, and Colorado. They have a pair against Vancouver and they finish against Anaheim. This isn’t the easiest finish, but it gives them opportunities to knock off several of their contenders for the lead in the West, if they can take advantage. Let’s look at each of the teams who are still alive for the playoffs as far as their NHL betting odds to win the Stanley Cup, and we’ll also discuss the current state of some of the contenders.

Colorado

started the 2022-23 season off in disappointing fashion, but they are peaking at the right time, going 8-2-0 in their last ten games. They have dealt with multiple injuries, but they improved their depth at the trade deadline. Cale Makar has missed some time here and there, and captain Gabriel Landeskog has taken longer to return to the lineup than the team thought. However, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen have scored 93 and 87 points respectively.

Vegas

has also gone 8-2-0 in their last ten games and is riding a four-game winning streak. They added Ivan Barbashev from St. Louis to give themselves more scoring depth, and Jack Eichel has found his elite scoring touch, as he showed with three points against Edmonton on Saturday.

The

N.Y. Rangers

has posted an 8-1-1 record in their last 10 games as they have brought a bit of a skid to a halt. Vladimir Tarasenko and Patrick Kane came to town at the trade deadline, and after a difficult transitional period, they are now contributing to the Rangers’ success. So far, injuries haven’t really come for the Blueshirts. The only key player on the shelf right now is Ryan Lindgren, and he is day-to-day. They have a +49 goal differential on the season, and goalie Igor Shesterkin is still one of the steadiest in the league.

Edmonton

has a 7-2-1 record in their last 10 games, and scoring depth has helped them considerably. Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl are the top scorers with 139 and 112 points, respectively, but Zach Hyman and Ryan Nugent-Hopkins are both over 60 points as well. The question for the Oil lies in goal, as neither netminder has taken charge of the position and both of the regular goalies have posted pedestrian save percentages.

Minnesota

is 6-1-3 in their last ten contests and now has a goal differential of +21. The team did lose forward Kirill Kaprizov to injury, but he remains day-to-day. The Wild are solid both on the power play and the penalty kill, and given the relative inconsistency of everyone else in the Central Division, the Wild have hung around long enough to take the lead.
