Bruins vs Flyers 2020 NHL Game Preview & Betting Odds

Written by on March 10, 2020

A potential Eastern Conference final matchup is on tap for Tuesday night, as the Boston Bruins (43-14-12, 98 points), currently leading the Atlantic Division, head down the Eastern seaboard to take on the Philadelphia Flyers (41-20-7, 89 points), who sit one point behind the Washington Capitals in the Metropolitan Division (while holding a game in hand) while riding a nine-game winning streak. Boston has won seven of their last ten while doing their best to hold off the rallying Tampa Bay Lightning in the Atlantic. Can Boston bring the Flyers’ winning streak to an end on their home ice? Or will Philadelphia make yet another statement about their place as East contenders with a win over the conference’s top team? Don’t miss our sports betting preview as you consider your wagering options. Let’s see how the NHL odds will be for the Bruins vs Flyers.

Bruins vs Flyers 2020 NHL Game Preview & Betting Odds

Why should you bet on Boston?

Boston has plenty of motivation coming in, as they fell to Tampa Bay on Saturday, 5-3. David Pastrnak continues to lead the NHL in goals with 48 (with 94 points overall), and he has points in five consecutive games. If Philadelphia wins, that would give them a season series sweep over the Bruins. Even with their two earlier losses to the Flyers, Boston is 6-1 in their last seven games against Eastern Conference foes and 6-1 in their last seven games away from the TD Garden.

Boston has already had a letdown against an East contender recently, so they should bounce back against the Flyers. Boston gave up two short-handed goals on the same power play during the first period. The game was a physical one, as the teams combined for 36 penalties (totaling 96 minutes) in their second game in the last four days. Tuukka Rask gave up goals on the first two shots he faced, so I expect Boston to have a better effort going forward on Tuesday night.

Why should you put your money on Philadelphia?

The Flyers have been stout at home all season long, posting a 25-5-4 record at Wells Fargo Center. Carter Hart has been terrific in goal, posting a 9-1-0 record in his ten starts since he came back from injury. He has posted a 20-2-2 mark at Wells Fargo Center and is expected to start in net for the Flyers. Jakub Voracek continues to pile up the assists, as he has 10 in his last five games, totaling 44 for the season. Philadelphia has already beaten the Bruins twice this season. Philadelphia has won six straight in games coming after a game in which they permitted no more than two goals, and if their defense remains stout, they can win here.

Philadelphia’s last win came at home on Saturday, as they beat the Buffalo Sabres, 3-1. The Flyers came out flat in this one, but Hart came through with some dazzling saves during the first period. Claude Giroux had a pair of goals, and Joel Farabee added a tally with 5:11 remaining in that third period. On that goal, Farabee pressured the Sabres’ goalie on a passback, and Farabee ending up swiping the puck from the Sabres’ netminder on a clearing attempt and sending the puck five-hole to give the Flyers an extra insurance goal.

Bruins vs Flyers Final Score Prediction

I’m used to the Flyers making late runs in the regular season, but this team looks like the real deal, peaking at just the right time. Boston comes to town playing hot hockey as well despite the loss in Tampa Bay. The Flyers are an impressive team right now, but the Bruins have been equally impressive, if not more so, in holding off the Lightning in the Atlantic Division. I see Philadelphia putting up a game effort for most of the night before the Bruins start to pull away.
