Valuable 2019 MLB Future Wagers Still Available

We are over a third of the way through the marathon known as the Major League Baseball regular season, and there are some surprises — Minnesota not just leading the American League Central but steamrolling the Cleveland Indians in the process? — and some outcomes we expected to this point — the Yankees and Dodgers leading their respective divisions. When we reach this point in the season, the savvy sports betting enthusiast can find some opportunities in the futures list to make some money. We have some suggestions for you to consider as the days before the All-Star break pass by.

Valuable 2019 MLB Futures Wagers Still Available

To Win the World Series

Minnesota Twins (+750)

If you had picked the Twins before the season started, your moneyline would have been +5000, but +750 is still fairly good value. The Twins have a better record than the Yankees or the Astros, but they are still behind those two teams on the moneyline list, in large part because of reputation. If you look at the Twins, they have a hitter who will make career bests in home runs and RBI in Eddie Rosario — he could drive in 130 runs this year. Rosario is taking advantage of opportunities to drive in runs, and the Twins are winning as a result.

Philadelphia Phillies (+1400)

Yes, the Phillies have slipped 1 ½ games behind Atlanta in the National League East. However, the Phillies are still recovering from the loss of Andrew McCutchen for the season with a knee injury. Jay Bruce has come on to take McCutchen’s place on the roster, and his power numbers are slowly climbing. Now the Phillies just need the rest of their offense to come back online. The Phillies have the talent to win the NL East, and if they hit the Dodgers in the postseason, the fatigue of a third long season may have caught up with Clayton Kershaw & Co. by then.

To Win the American League West

Texas (+1800)

Of all of the divisional dark horses, this is the most interesting. The Texas Rangers have assembled a cast of retreads around Mike Minor in their pitching staff, but they have stuck around and are in the second wild-card position at this writing, 9 ½ games behind the Houston Astros. They were in a similar position in 2016 and came all the way back to win the AL West. The Rangers have a scrappy offense, and Rougned Odor’s contract extension hangover seems finally to be winding down. Given the value here, it would be interesting to see if you could win a wager on another Astros meltdown.

To Win the National League Pennant

Chicago Cubs (+700)

The Chicago Cubs have been hanging just behind the Milwaukee Brewers for much of the season in the National League Central, but the signing of Craig Kimbrel has changed the dynamics of the division — and perhaps the whole National League. Chicago has 12 blown saves this season, and having a set closer will make it easier for manager Joe Maddon to figure out his setup strategy for each game. Kimbrel has a World Series ring from last year’s title in Boston, and he comes into 2019 fresh. Can the Cubs pass the Brewers with a revamped bullpen? Absolutely. Can they get through the Division Series and the League Championship Series with last year’s World Series-winning closer? He gives the Cubs a weapon that the Dodgers still lack.

Milwaukee Brewers (+700)

Keston Hiura just went down to the minor leagues despite hitting .281 with five home runs in 17 games while he was up and Travis Shaw was injured. Shaw has returned, so Hiura went back down — and has gone 7 for 17 with a pair of doubles and a home run since the demotion. At the big league level, Jesus Aguilar is still mired in a slump. If Hiura can take Aguilar’s spot in the lineup and keep delivering, the Brewers might be able to keep up with the Cubs, even with the addition of Kimbrel, and then who knows what might happen in October?
