Updated MLB Odds to Win the World Series: Betting Predictions

Written by on February 24, 2022

As of this writing, the start to the 2022 Major League Baseball season is in jeopardy due to an ongoing lockout by the owners. If the lockout does not end by Monday, February 28, then the regular season would not start on time. The owners have made a number of proposals, but for now the only people in camps are players without a major league contract. Even so, it’s time to start looking at each team’s sports betting odds to win the World Series this fall. Let’s take a look at the updated MLB Betting Odds and talk about some of the contenders.

Tampa Bay is an interesting value choice right now, after they inked Wander Franco to a record-breaking deal and then added former Cy Young winner Corey Kluber (who tanked in Texas but did OK in New York), along with reliever Brooks Baley. Nelson Cruz is the only position player from a strong offensive core last year who isn’t returning. It’s time to add some rotation depth and to replace Joey Wendle.

Houston has brought back Justin Verlander and signed Hector Neris to replace Kendall Graveman. Carlos Correa is still on the market, and he looks to be asking for more than Houston wants to pay. Alex Bregman could move to shortstop, but then who would play third? Also, Houston could do with a better center fielder.

Milwaukee got Hunter Renfroe from Boston, adding a big bat to the lineup. The Brewers were eighth in the National League in home runs last year and only put up a .396 slugging percentage. Renfroe hit 31 dingers and posted a .501 slugging percentage last year. Milwaukee won 95 games last year and didn’t get hit too hard by free agency, so they should be ready to contend again.

The Dodgers are starting to take on water. Corey Seager departed for Texas via free agency, and Trea Turner is a serviceable, but not exciting, replacement. Seager’s left-handed bat was a vital tool in the offense. Now the team needs one more big bat, hopefully an infielder on the right side. Corey Knebel and Max Scherzer have already left town, and Kenley Jansen and Clayton Kershaw could look for new surroundings as well. Andrew Heaney and Daniel Hudson are a start, but the team needs more.

The White Sox might lose hurler Carlos Rodon to the free-agent market, but the rotation already boasts Dylan Cease, Lucas Giolito and Lance Lynn, and Michael Kopech is expected to join the rotation as well. The bullpen improved with the addition of Graveman, who posted 10 saves and a 1.77 ERA in 2021. Along with Graveman, Liam Hendriks and Craig Kimbrel form an exciting trio to shut down offenses late in ball games.

The Mets are still looking for a manager, but that manager will have a talented roster. Max Scherzer came to town after signing a record deal, and Mark Canha, Eduardo Escobar and Starling Marte all signed contracts before the lockout. Losing Noah Syndergaard, Aaron Loup, Javier Baez and Marcus Stroman will hurt, but the Mets have a solid base once the lockout ends.

Toronto signed Jose Berrios to an extension and brought in Yimi Garcia and Kevin Gausman via free agency. However, they lost Robbie Ray, Steven Matz and Marcus Semien. The young core is still in town, but Semien took a lot of production with him, and the team needs to replace that. One possibility is Freddie Freeman, whose reps have been in contact with the Blue Jays.
