The last “elevated event” on the 2023 PGA Tour schedule takes place this week at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. In previous years, many of the top players in the game would have opted out of a tournament the week after the U.S. Open (especially since the Open was across the country in Los Angeles), but since PGA players can only opt out of one these “elevated” tournaments per year without facing a fine, a lot of the big names will play, including Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay and Scottie Scheffler. Wyndham Clark, who won the U.S. Open last week, is in the field, as is Rickie Fowler, who started the U.S. Open with a 62 and led going into Sunday but faded, settling for T5. Let’s look at the PGA betting odds for the tournament contenders (+10000 or better) as well as some wager card suggestions.

Scottie Scheffler
spent a lot of the U.S. Open under the radar, but he still finished in third place all by himself. He has finished T5 or better in five straight tournaments, and the last time he finished outside the top 12 was back in October. He gained 12.85 strokes from tee to green and 10.2 strokes with his ball-striking. His metrics over the last 48 rounds place him first in this field in Strokes Gained: Ball-Striking, SG: Approach, SG: Around the Green, SG: Tee to Green, and SG: Off the Tee. The only problem has come on the green, as his putter has failed him repeatedly. With a solid putter, he’d be winning each event. He did gain 1.2 strokes with the putter at the U.S. Open, and if that can keep trending upward, he will win a lot of tournaments this year. He has played three other tournaments at TPC River Highlands, including last year, when he came in T13.Russell Henley
gaines 7.09 strokes on approach at the U.S. Open last week, fourth in this field. He came in T14, his fifth finish at T19 or better in his last six tournaments. Over those six starts, he is 16th in this field in SG: Tee to Green, 15th in SG: Total and 23rd in SG: Ball Striking. At TPC River Highlands, he has made four of the last five cuts since 2016, finishing T6 and in the top 19 two other times. He does better on shorter courses, where his lack of driving distance doesn’t play a role. His drives are extremely accurate, and his short irons are elite.Austin Eckroat
finished T2 at the AT&T Byron Nelson and followed that up with a T10 at the U.S. Open, where he gained 12.44 strokes from tee to green. That was the fourth-best result in that metric in the tournament, behind Scottie Schefler, Tommy Fleetwood and Rory McIlroy. For hist last 16 rounds, against this field he ranks ninth in SG: Ball Striking and 10th in SG: Total. Those metrics against a field as loaded as this one are especially impressive. He has only one other start in his career at TPC River Highlands, and that was a T47 from 2021. He’s playing much better golf these days, and he offers a lot of value.Live PGA Travelers Championship Betting Odds For Today
