Alexa Grasso vs Valentina Shevchenko

UFC Odds: Alexa Grasso (16-3, 8-3 UFC, +140) vs Valentina Shevchenko (23-4, 12-3 UFC, -166)

Is Grasso’s defense of a belt that she took from Shevchenko six months ago. Grasso has had her ups and downs in UFC, with injuries and disappointing fights marring her progress. However, her decision to move to flyweight three years ago paid off, proven by her 2021 victory over Maycee Barber. At strawweight, she was losing to better wrestlers, but the extra mass coming with flyweight fighting allowed her to compete more successfully. Some tough wins in 2022 brought her into the title picture, but when she took down Shevchenko by jumping around a spinning kick to move into position for a submission, the UFC world was shocked, and an immediate rematch was granted.

For years, Shevchenko was known as the second best bantamweight in UFC besides Amanda Nunes, and when UFC created the flyweight class, it was a more natural place for Shevchenko given her build. She has delivered some brutal punishment, as with her highlight-reel knockout of Jessica Eye in 2019. However, her win over Taila Santos last summer was perhaps a sign that her career arc was bending downward. Santos fought Shevchenko evenly until she suffered a fractured orbital bone. Could Grasso’s upset win give her the confidence to defend her title emphatically? Or will Shevchenko reverse the outcome from March? I’m going with the value here.

Grasso vs Shevchenko 2 Final Prediction: Grasso wins on the cards

Jack Della Maddalena vs Kevin Holland

UFC Odds: Jack Della Maddalena (15-2, 5-0 UFC, -148) vs Kevin Holland (25-9, 12-6 UFC, +124)

Is Holland’s latest attempt to turn his size advantage into an edge over opponents through the use of striking volume. We saw this in July when he took Michael Chiesa apart, but Stephen Thompson and Khamzat Chimaev both showed that this approach has a ceiling. When he first joined UFC, he was willing to take fights on at a moment’s notice, and the fact that he came in during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic meant that there were plenty of chances. He had four wins in just over four months in the second half of 2020, but then Derek Brunson and Marvin Vettori exploited his wrestling weaknesses in a pair of main-event thrashings.

Della Maddalena emerged in the UFC world with a 2021 victory on Dana White’s Contender Series and an easy win over Ramazan Emeev in his promotional debut. He then beat Randy Brown down under in February before defeating Bassil Hafez in July – although that win over Hafez was much closer than experts had predicted. Hafez benefited from some poor choices by Della Maddalena in the grappling game. Holland is much more durable than Della Maddalena’s other opponents to this point. Holland should be able to exploit Della Maddalena’s lack of defensive commitment.

Final Prediction: Holland wins via stoppage
