Tottenham vs Liverpool 2020 Premier League Odds & Game Prediction

Written by on January 10, 2020

Liverpool’s status as the English Premier League juggernaut continues, as they have won 19 of their first 20 matches in league play, suffering just one draw. They followed up their rout of Leicester City with a win over Sheffield United last week. This Saturday they head to North London to take on Tottenham, who have sagged to sixth place in the EPL table, dropping two of their last five. For Tottenham to win, even at home, would be an upset, as their addition of Jose Mourinho as manager has not brought the instant results that fans expected. Can the Spurs pull things together at home? Or will this be another walk in the park for the Reds? Don’t miss our sports betting preview of Saturday’s EPL showdown.

Tottenham vs Liverpool 2020 Premier League Odds & Game Prediction

Why should you bet on Liverpool?

Liverpool established a dominant tone early in their home match against Sheffield United last Thursday. Mohamed Salah scored just four minutes in, and Liverpool’s possession game frustrated the visitors for the majority of the match. Sadio Mane added an insurance goal in the 64th  minute, but Sheffield never really threatened much over the course of the game’s action.

Liverpool possessed for 75 percent of the game and completed 90 percent of their passes, giving Sheffield scant opportunity to press for the chances. Liverpool outshot the visitors 19-3 (7-2 on target) and forced eight corner kicks, to just four for Sheffield. The visitors appeared resigned to their lot, as they did not make this much of a physical game, committing eight fouls while drawing no cautions. If you like Liverpool here, you see their game as a well-oiled machine, designed to take the competition apart, minute by minute.

Why should you put your money on Tottenham?

Tottenham’s woes continued in 1 -0 away loss to Southampton last Wednesday. That’s the same Southampton that sits in 12th place in the table with 25 points, just five points clear of relegation. Tottenham fought offensive malaise before the change in managers, and that malaise appears to continue under Mourinho, at least at this point, with the Spurs considering whether to take advantage of the January transfer window. Southampton got a goal from Danny Ings in the 17th minute and then locked down the visitors after that, rolling to a victory that offered little in the way of drama, as the Spurs could not get their attack together.

Southampton ended up outshooting Tottenham 12-11 (although the Spurs were ahead in on-target shots, 5-3), despite the fact that Tottenham possessed for 60 percent of the game. Tottenham’s passing was sloppy, as they completed just 73 percent of thier passes. Southampton brought the physicality to the match, committing 21 fouls and drawing three yellow cards. While Tottenham matched the hosts’ lack of composure, drawing four yellow cards, they could not put the ball in the back of the net. If the Spurs cannot score against a team in danger of heading to the English League, it’s hard to see them beating Liverpool, even at home.

Final Score Prediction

Until Tottenham figures out how to get out of their own way, Jose Mourinho won’t have any more success than his predecessors had in getting the Spurs up closer to the top of the table. A visit from the team at the top of the standings is rarely the doctor’s orders for improving a team’s performance. I see Liverpool jumping on the Spurs early, and while the Reds might surrender one goal, they won’t surrender any others. I predict a final score of Liverpool 3, Tottenham 1.
