Top NHL Betting Picks & Prediction of the Week – November 27th

Written by on November 27, 2017

Now that the turkey has been polished off (or at least converted into tubs full of leftovers), it’s time to turn our attention back from football to the action on the ice. The expansion Vegas Golden Knights have continued their hot start as a franchise, skating to the top of the Pacific Division, leading Los Angeles by two points – and they still have two games in hand on the Kings. The young Edmonton Oilers are struggling after their hot season last year, sitting at the bottom of the Pacific standings. The Washington Capitals have pulled out of the basement in the Metropolitan Division, climbing the standings with a three-game winning streak. We’re still looking for the real Montreal Canadiens, though, as they have a -23 goal differential after 24 games. Check out our NHL betting matchups of the week as you plan pick out the NHL odds that works for you.

Top NHL Betting Picks & Prediction of the Week – November 27th

Columbus at Montreal (7:30pm ET, FSOH / RDS)

Columbus is just a point behind New Jersey at the top of the Metropolitan Division, and at this point in the season their only flaw is their offense. They only score 2.9 goals per game, good for 18th in the NHL – and their power play is downright anemic, as their 9.7% conversion rate is dead last in the league. Their defense is rock solid as they permit just 2.3 goals per game (third overall) and kill off 84.5% of penalties (fifth overall). They head to Montreal to take on a team that ranks 27th or worse in goals scored, goals permitted, power play and the penalty kill, so despite that 3-0 home win over Buffalo on Saturday night, the Canadiens may be looking at some real retooling. NHL Betting Prediction: Columbus 2, Montreal 0

Dallas at Vegas (10:00pm ET, FSSW / AT&TSN)

Vegas knocked off Dallas down in the Lone Star State in their first game as a franchise, and while the Stars are 10-1-1 on home ice since then, they are just 2-8-0 away from the American Airlines Center. They did beat Calgary on Friday, 6-4, but despite the addition of elite goalie Ben Bishop, the Stars still have no concept of defense, which is why they permit 3.0 goals per game (16th overall). Their power play is top-notch (23.9% conversion rate) but overall their scoring is only average, as they tally 2.9 goals per game, 14th overall. Vegas’ offense has remained hot all season long, as they score 3.7 goals per contest, or second overall in the league. Given Dallas’ recent road woes and Vegas’ white-hot offense so far this season, I don’t think the odds are in the Stars’ favor. NHL Betting Prediction: Vegas 5, Dallas 3

Toronto at Edmonton (9:00pm ET, TSNT / RSNW)

Two young teams square off in Western Canada on Thursday night – and they appear to be headed in opposite directions. The youthful Oilers crashed the playoff party last year but would miss them if the season ended today. The Maple Leafs sit in second place in the Atlantic Division right now despite taking a 4-2 beating from Washington on Saturday night. Toronto has an exciting offense, putting up 3.5 goals per game (fourth overall) and converting 22.1% of their power plays (11th overall). Their defense (3.0 goals permitted per game, 21st overall) leaves a bit to be desired, though. The Oilers are having a hard time on both ends of the ice, ranked #26 in both goals scored per game (2.7) and goals permitted per game (3.3). Their penalty kill has been particularly generous, as they only kill off 73.8% of power plays, ranking them 29th in the league. The prowess of Connor McDavid continues to go to waste in Edmonton so far this year, and it does not look like they will fix things in time to take down the Maple Leafs at home on Thursday night. NHL Betting Prediction: Toronto 4, Edmonton 2
