Bruins and Blue Jackets if Stanley Cup Playoffs Started Today

For many of us, patience is a trait that does not come easy, and as sports fans, we are certainly being put to the test at the moment. While it is totally understandable that sports are at a standstill right now, it’s still not easy to take, especially with so many of us forced to stay home during these troubled times. Normalcy will return at dome point and the major leagues will once again spring into operation, but it really is tough to know how they will look when they do get back to business. The NHL was very close to the end of the regular season, and while some would love to see the remaining games played out before hitting the playoffs, only time will tell of that is a feasible option. With all that in mind, we thought that it might be fun to preview the opening round matchups that would occur if the NHL did decide to return and head right into the postseason. There is a lot of ground to cover there, so let’s see how the NHL odds will be for the Bruins vs Blue Jackets.

Bruins and Blue Jackets if Stanley Cup Playoffs Started Today

The Bruins and Blue Jackets Season to Date

The Boston Bruins came into this season with a bit of a chip on their shoulder after losing to the St. Louis Blues in the Stanley Cup Final last year. Oftentimes, we will see teams fail to get back to those heights in the year following a loss in the championship, but that has not been the case with the Boston Bruins. At 44-14-12, they became the first team to hit 100 points this season and were almost certainly on pace to win the President’s Trophy. Their +53 goal differential is also the best in the league, so they would almost certainly start the playoffs as the favorite to win it all.

The Columbus Blue Jackets went into the lockdown holding the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The issue there, though, is that while they are a point up on the team right below the playoff line, they had also played two more games than the Islanders. Overall this season, the Blue Jackets are sitting at 33-22-15, which tell you just how important those OT and SO losses are. Columbus has picked up 15 points in those games, which is part of the reason why they are even in the playoff picture at this late stage of the season.

The Bruins and Blue Jackets Head to Head

Things always tend to look a little different in the playoffs than they do in the regular season, with the cream usually rising to the top in a 7-game series. The Bruins are going to need to hope that is the case, as they lost both meetings with the Blue Jackets this season, with both games short on offense.

Bruins and Blue Jackets Series Prediction

Stranger things have happened in the Stanley Cup playoffs, but looking at these two teams’ side by side, it’s tough to imagine the Bruins losing this series. I think that Boston would ultimately win this one in 5 or 6 games.
