NFL Week 4 Top Straight Up Picks

NFL Week 4 Top Straight Up Picks

Written by on September 29, 2021

Going into Week 4, only five unbeaten teams remain in the NFL — and only five winless teams are left. The two unbeatens in the AFC — Las Vegas and Denver — are a bit of a surprise, but Denver has played three 0-3 teams so far. In the NFC, Carolina, the Rams and Arizona are all unbeaten, as the Panthers and the Cardinals seem to be improving ahead of schedule, at least to this point. Picking straight up outcomes means relying on value from the moneyline to help make your decisions.

Let’s look at your best NFL betting choices for straight up wagers this coming week.

NFL News: Week 4 Top Straight Up Picks

Washington Football Team (-125) at Atlanta Falcons (+105)

On paper, Atlanta should win this game all day long. The fact that they had to come back late to beat the New York Giants shows that Matt Ryan still has some work to do adjusting to running more of a checkdown offense. He has talented receiving options in Calvin Ridley and Kyle Pitts. Washington’s defense has gotten shredded so far this season, at least compared to its expectations. I’m going with the Falcons here because of the value that this side of the moneyline offers.

Carolina Panthers (+175) at Dallas Cowboys (-210)

Dallas rolled to a 20-point win over Philadelphia on Monday Night Football, a game that was not as close as the final score indicated. The Eagles only had one offensive touchdown before garbage time, while Dallas had a pick-six — and got as much offense the rest of the night as they wanted. Two Dallas turnovers led to a Philadelphia touchdown, but if the Cowboys have ball security locked down next week, even Carolina will have a tough time stopping them. The Panthers looked solid in shutting down New Orleans in Week 2, but Dallas’ offense is even better than the Saints’ at this point. Despite the lack of value, I like Dallas to win this — but I’m not sure I like giving Carolina four points, because this could come down to a last-minute field goal.

Arizona Cardinals (+190) at Los Angeles Rams (-230)

The Rams could be ripe for a bit of a letdown after taking down Tampa Bay last week, and the Cardinals have shown they are ready to take advantage of teams that are not quite ready to play. We saw that in their Week 1 demolition of the Titans on the road, and the Cardinals have just kept winning since then. Kyler Murray continues his progression into the group of elite NFL quarterbacks, and the defense has gotten saltier with the addition of the likes of J.J. Watt. With the value I can get here — and the way the Cardinals have snatched early-season wins the last two years, I like Arizona here.

Seattle Seahawks (+130) at San Francisco 49ers (-150)

Russell Wilson vs Jimmy Garoppolo? This seems like a no-brainer until you notice that the Seahawks are 1-2, with an overtime loss to Tennessee and a convincing loss to Minnesota coming in the last two weeks. This is usually the time the Seahawks snap out of a funk and deliver a beatdown. The problem for Seattle comes in the second half, as they have a combined 13 points after the intermission in their first three games. The 49ers fought hard against Green Bay, only to have a demoralizing Aaron Rodgers scoring drive swipe the win from them in the game’s last 37 seconds. I see Seattle fixing some of their offensive woes and taking advantage of that pain.

Las Vegas Raiders (+155) at Los Angeles Chargers (-180)

Can Jon Gruden game plan his defense to frustrate Justin Herbert? I believe so — he just needs to look at what Dallas did two weeks ago, changing up the pass rush scheme and mixing pass coverages. Herbert will still do his damage, but Derek Carr has shown that he can pass down the field against just about anyone this season. I’m taking that value and betting on the Greatness to win on Monday night.
