Updated Super Bowl Odds after NFL Week 12

Written by on November 30, 2021

Don’t look now, but the New England Patriots are charging hard in the AFC. They knocked off a Tennessee Titans team that, just two weeks ago, was 8-2 and held the top seed in the conference. Since then, the Titans have lost to Houston at home and at New England, and the Patriots are 8-4, with a half-game lead on the Buffalo Bills, who can’t seem to put together coherent stretches of play against good opponents this season. In the NFC, both Washington and San Francisco have charged back into the playoff picture with three-game winning streaks.

Let’s look at the latest NFL betting odds for each team to win the Super Bowl, along with check-ins with some of the contenders.

The Green Bay Packers have an offense that scores at a similar pace to last year’s — and last year’s led the league in scoring. Some defensive issues against Tampa Bay in the NFC Championship — along with a controversial decision to kick a field goal instead of going for it on 4th and goal, and an iffy pass interference penalty that kept the ball in Tom Brady’s hands — kept the Packers out of the Super Bowl. They go into the bye after scoring more than 30 points in two straight games, so they can heal and prepare for the closing stretch, in which they only go on the road twice, and once of those games is in Detroit.

The Arizona Cardinals did lose to Green Bay during the regular season, but the loss came on a quirky play at the end of the game, and that could end up turning into a blessing for the Cardinals, giving them the wake-up call they need when they see the Pack again. They beat San Francisco and Seattle with a backup quarterback, and now they come out of the bye hoping to be healthy down the stretch.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were down 10 at halftime in Indianapolis and were about to be down 17 before a key fumble, and then the comeback began, as the Bucs roared back for a 38-31 win. The injury bug is rampant in Tampa, but with veterans such as Brady, Rob Gronkowski, Leonard Fournette, Ndamukong Suh and Lavonte David on the roster, it will be hard to count this team out, even when it falls behind against good teams.

The New England Patriots are riding a six-game winning streak and have a chance to start pulling away from Buffalo with a Monday night affair in upstate New York this week. Since Week 6, the Pats have turned a -3 turnover differential into a +10 differential, now second best in the league. Their aggressive defense was part of the team from the beginning, but now that Mac Jones has gained confidence running the offense, this will be a tough team to stop in the postseason.

The Kansas City Chiefs have figured things out on defense, permitting under 12 points per game over their last four contests. However, the offense has only scored more than 20 points once in the last five games, so while Patrick Mahomes has started to see how to move the ball when teams are leaving their safeties high and refusing to blitz, this trend needs to improve significantly.
