Kansas City (12) had problems in the Super Bowl because of holes in their offensive line. They had to use three backups, and the Tampa Bay pass rush took advantage. So what did the Chiefs do? They went out and inked free-agent guard Joe Thuney, and they shipped a first-rounder for offensive tackle Orlando Brown, two elite players. Guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif opted out of 2020 to provide medical care but should be back, and then the team drafted Creed Humphrey in the third round, and he could start at center. Can this team do better than 12-5 in a soft AFC West? Absolutely.

Buffalo (10.5)  could not mount a pass rush in their AFC Championship loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. They drafted Greg Rousseau, who had 15 ½ sacks for the University of Miami (FL) last year, and Carlos Basham, who had 23 consecutive games with at least one tackle for loss for Wake Forest last year. They still have that high-octane offense, by the way. So yes, the Bills will finish at least 11-6, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see them go 6-0 in that AFC East.

Cleveland (10) bolstered their defense by adding pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney and safety John Johnson via free agency. Their two top draft choices, cornerback Greg Newsome and linebacker Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, are also on the defensive side of the ball. Can OBJ come back and play a full season as his old self? That would just be gravy. Get ready for another promising season from the Browns…and at least 11 wins.

Arizona (8) finished 8-8 a year ago, and Kyler Murray is a year more experienced in the league. The Rams have a new old quarterback in Matthew Stafford, the 49ers appear to be entering some sort of rebuild, and Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson just threw his whole O-line under the bus. Is there room for the Cardinals to make a big move in the NFC West? Um, definitely.

Washington (8) will win the NFC East again. They have veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick, who had a career season last year in Miami, at quarterback. Their defense is the best in the NFC East. Philadelphia does not have Carson Wentz anymore, and the Giants are rebuilding. Dallas just gave Dak Prescott a ton of money, but their defense is made up of retreads and rookies (high quality rookies, but the learning curve will be steep). So I’m taking the over here too.
