NFC Super Bowl 58 Contenders Betting Odds and Trends

Written by on November 1, 2023

In one of the early transactions at the NFL trade deadline, the Chicago Bears sent the Washington Commanders a second-round draft pick for edge rusher Montez Sweat. This was a surprising swap given that the Bears aren’t winning games and are waiting for starting quarterback Justin Fields to return from injury. Why would a team headed to a high draft pick give away a second-rounder? Well, Sweat is on pace for a career high in sacks, with 6 ½ so far and 19 quarterback pressures. The Bears average 1.3 sacks per game and have a pressure rate of 14.4%. Both numbers are dead last in the league. In the 2024 draft, the Bears had seven picks before trading for Sweat. Two of them should be in the top five – their own first-rounder and a first-round pick that belongs to Carolina. This means that they had draft picks to give away and will have cap room to give Sweat a hefty extension. If you’re looking ahead to the playoffs, you know that the Bears won’t be Super Bowl contenders out of the NFC this year. For those who are looking at sports betting on NFL futures, read on to get our thoughts on the NFC Super Bowl Contenders that might end up in Las Vegas instead.

2023/24 Top NFC Super Bowl Contenders

Philadelphia Eagles

Obviously, the defending NFC champions come to mind first given their 7-1 record. Jalen Hurts just had what might be his best game of 2023, throwing four touchdown passes and completing over 76% of his passes to get the Eagles past a game Washington Commanders team. His interceptions are up this season; he has already thrown eight after throwing just six in the whole 2022 season, and the pain in his left knee is evident. Even so, he keeps making incredible plays and coming up big in clutch moments.

Dallas Cowboys

To hear Jerry Jones tell it, the Cowboys have the right roster to make the Super Bowl every year. This time around, the Cowboys are getting improved play from Dak Prescott, who is using his legs to get time outside the pocket and improvise. He needs to be mobile as the offensive line is not particularly solid in pass protection this year. In three games in 2023, he has posted a completion rate of at least 80%, due primarily to shorter, quicker passes, but in the first half against the Rams last week, he went 7 of 9 for 133 yards and three scores on passes that traveled at least 10 air yards in the first half.

San Francisco 49ers

The 49ers started 5-0, with that fifth win an absolute laugher against the Dallas Cowboys. They haven’t won since then. Brock Purdy has just five interceptions so far this season, but they’ve all come in the last three weeks. Four of those came in their opponents’ territory. For the year, Purdy still has a 12:5 TD:INT ratio and a 68.3% pass completion rate, but his form has dropped significantly and the team has lost all three of those games.

Detroit Lions

Yes, that’s right – the Detroit Lions are Super Bowl contenders this year. They have won six straight games against divisional opponents, their longest such streak since 1979. Last week, Jahmyr Gibbs announced his presence as an elite tailback with 189 all-purpose yards in the absence of David Montgomery. Jared Goff has a 12:5 TD:INT ratio through eight games and has his team leading the NFC North.

Seattle Seahawks

Seattle is 5-2, but Geno Smith has five picks in the last three weeks – but just four touchdown passes over that same time frame. He only had one turnover in the first four weeks. Two of those picks came on forced throws in the red zone. Smith is still highly accurate and can put balls in extremely tight windows, but he needs to focus on ball security as we approach the second half of the season.

Bet on the Seahawks to Win!
