Quarterback Power Rankings after NFL Week 9

Quarterback Power Rankings after NFL Week 9

Written by on November 4, 2020

It has to be embarrassing to be the New York Jets’ Sam Darnold. After all, he’s at the bottom of this week’s NFL QB power rankings, even below the backups for the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Dallas Cowboys (and Dallas looks to start third-stringer Ben DiNucci for the second week in a row now that backup Andy Dalton is on the COVID-19 list.

Take a look at the latest quarterback power rankings as you consider your fantasy plays and your NFL betting for the weekend.

NFL News:  Quarterback Power Rankings after Week 9

#32: Sam Darnold (NYJ)

Darnold went down with a shoulder sprain for a few weeks, leaving Joe Flacco to drive a very poorly maintained bus. Now he’s back, and he’s missing receivers all over the place.

#31: Ben DiNucci (DAL)

He holds onto the ball way too long, which is why he took four sacks against Philadelphia, fumbling the ball twice. He didn’t throw any picks, but he also went 0 for 9 on pass attempts more than 10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage.

#30: Jake Luton (JAX)

Luton makes his career debut against the Houston Texans, as Gardner Minshew II, already playing poorly, is out for an extended time.

#29: Nick Mullens (SF)

He looked great against Seattle, but he did this earlier this season as well — come out looking tremendous, but then level off and start throwing picks. Will he do the same thing this week? The Niners have tons of injuries, most notably George Kittle, so Mullens’ weapons will be limited.

#28: Kyle Allen (WAS)

Kyle Allen has shown he can manage the offense for the Football Team. Could he lead Washington to a division title?

#27: Daniel Jones (NYG)

He’s such a great athlete, and he makes the throws a franchise quarterback should make. Unfortunately, he also throws interceptions at exactly the wrong time. Go back and watch the Tampa Bay loss to see what I’m talking about.

#26: Cam Newton (NE)

He was ranked a lot higher before he went on the COVID-19 list. It’s not clear whether the “mental fog” side effect of the disease is still with him, whether he still isn’t back to full strength in terms of cardio, but he’s not looking like Superman right now.

#25: Drew Lock (DEN)

He gave a huge halftime speech when the Broncos were down big to the Chargers, and he led them back for a win that could alter their season trajectory. But can he stop turning the ball over?

#24: Nick Foles (CHI)

Foles has looked extremely slow this season, and I’m talking about when he winds up to throw the ball, as we already know he isn’t mobile.

#23: Tua Tagovailoa (MIA)

He only threw for 92 yards in his starting debut, and the team got three touchdowns from defense and special teams, but he will improve.

#22: Baker Mayfield (CLE)

We saw the very average side of Mayfield against the Raiders. We need more of the transcendent competitor if these Browns are really going to be contenders.

#21: Matthew Stafford (DET)

He’s still got that cannon arm, but his decision-making is off, and his interception total is climbing.

#20: Kirk Cousins (MIN)

The Vikings went run-first against Green Bay and got four touchdowns out of Dalvin Cook. Cousins is a good quarterback with a huge arm, but he’s not the sort of gunslinger who can deliver miracles.

#19: Philip Rivers (IND)

The Colts rolled over Cincinnati and Detroit, as Rivers is throwing the ball with confidence. Colts fans need to know, though, that Rivers has a tendency to break his team’s back with bad picks in crucial moments.

#18: Jared Goff (LAR)

Goff makes bad decisions when he’s under pressure. Opposing defenses know that, so you’ll see tons of blitzing.

#17: Carson Wentz (PHI)

Wentz’s game against Dallas was dreadful: two interceptions and two fumbles on sacks when he had plenty of time to throw the ball away. He also had some good passes, but he’s making too many mistakes for a quarterback at this point in his career.

#16: Joe Burrow (CIN)

The Bengals need an offensive line and a defense, but as we saw in the Bengals’ win over the Titans, Burrow can overcome those deficiencies at times.

#15: Teddy Bridgewater (CAR)

Bridgewater continues to be underrated on a team that is missing its tailback and whose defense is in tatters.

#14: Matt Ryan (ATL)

Terrific talent, but who knows what is going on inside his mind?

#13: Justin Herbert (LAC)

Herbert is throwing great balls right now. However, the team has blown 16-point leads in four straight games. He needs to play as well in the fourth quarter as he is the rest of the game.

#12: Josh Allen (BUF)

Allen had three weeks of MVP-worthy ball, and since then he’s been hit-or-miss. This could be a microcosm of Allen’s NFL career.

#11: Derek Carr (LV)

Carr did enough to lead the Raiders to a win in Cleveland in driving rain and wind. His mental toughness can’t be questioned, as he looks as good as he has in his entire career.

#10: Ryan Tannehill (TEN)

The Titans are contenders, but slow starts by Tannehill the last two weeks have cost his team.

#9: Lamar Jackson (BAL)

His deep throws are looking increasingly worse — and opposing defenses are intercepting more of them.

#8: Drew Brees (NO)

Brees continues to produce even without Michael Thomas.

#7: Deshaun Watson (HOU)

Few pocket passers have the dynamic power Watson brings to his game. It’s a shame that the rest of the roster has come to look like a garage sale.

#6: Tom Brady (TB)

The ageless Tom Brady has the Bucs in first place in the NFC South. His accuracy isn’t quite what it has been, but he’s making huge plays in the clutch.

#5: Ben Roethlisberger (PIT)

Pittsburgh has a perfect 7-0 record, and Roethlisberger’s steady leadership should make him a finalist for Comeback Player of the Year.

#4: Kyler Murray (ARI)

Murray struggled for a few weeks after a huge start, but he’s rebounded. His athleticism makes him one of the most dangerous signal-callers in football

#3: Aaron Rodgers (GB)

He drops teardrop passes on a dime, he moves well in and out of the pocket, and he sees the little things, like an extra defender trying to beat the snap off the field. It’s a shame he can’t play defense.

#2: Russell Wilson (SEA)

The Seahawks don’t really have a running game, but they’re pushing 40 points each week.

#1: Patrick Mahomes (KC)

He’s on pace for 42 touchdowns and just two interceptions, and he really hasn’t been the focus of the offense all that much.
