Patriots vs Bills NFL Week 8 Lines & Expert Prediction

Written by on October 26, 2018

The Buffalo Bills make their 43rd appearance on Monday Night Football when New England comes to town, and just their first since November 7, 2016, when they lost at Seattle. The Bills haven’t hosted a Monday Night Football game since 2008, when they lost by two points to Cleveland. They haven’t won a home MNF contest since September 26, 1994, when Doug Flutie led them to victory with a late touchdown to knock off Denver, 27-20. The Bills played the Patriots on Monday in 2009 and 2015, losing in Foxboro both times. Can the Bills reverse the trend this coming Monday? Or will the Patriots deliver another win? Check out our NFL betting advice about what to do with this game, especially with a line of that size.

Patriots vs Bills NFL Week 8 Lines & Expert Prediction

When: Monday, October 29, 2018, 8:15 ET Where: New Era Field, Buffalo, NY TV: ESPN Radio: Westwood One Live Stream: NFL Live NFL Week 8 Odds: New England -13.5, O/U 44.5

Why should you bet on the Patriots?

New England has won four games in a row, although they almost got caught by Chicago at the end last week, as a Hail Mary pass was caught at the one-yard line, but then the New England secondary kept the receiver out of the end zone, preserving a 38-31 win. Tom Brady has a 16:7 TD:INT ratio, completing 68 percent of his passes. Tailback Sony Michel (knee) remains questionable but, since the Patriots have not signed anyone to replace him, it makes sense that his knee has the structural stability to make it out for this week’s game. James White can also carry the ball but is a terrific option catching out of the backfield as well. The Patriots’ defense is the real question, as they do give up a lot of passing yards — and a lot of points. However, the Bills’ offense doesn’t have the personnel to do a lot of damage against New England. The Patriots have won the last three meetings between these two teams by a combined 57 points, and Tom Brady has won 28 of the 31 meetings that he has started against the Bills in his career. Add that to the fact that the Bills have failed to get to 14 points in five of their seven games so far, and you have the recipe for a rout.

Why should you put your money on the Bills?

This has been a rough season all the way around for the Buffalo Bills, starting with their quarterback situation. For some reason, they traded AJ McCarron to Oakland just before their opener, leaving Nathan Peterman and rookie Josh Allen as the two signal-callers on the roster. With injuries to Allen and interception woes striking Peterman, the Bills also added Derek Anderson to their roster — yet another piece of evidence for those who think that Colin Kaepernick should have a job somewhere. Allen is expected to be out, so look for Anderson and Peterman to share the load. The leading rusher for Buffalo is LeSean McCoy, who has 244 yards so far. On defense, the Bills were spectacular against Minnesota in Week 2 but have been awful against everyone else, including the Colts, who delivered a 37-5 whipping a week ago. Tremaine Edmunds does lead the team with 39 tackles, but the team just gives up way too much scoring. The defense has to play a lot of the game since the offense is only averaging 234 yards and 11.6 points per contest, and that time on the field wears on the players. Even with a two-touchdown line, unless the Patriots come in snoozing like the Vikings did in Week 2, it’s hard to see the Bills covering here.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think that Josh Allen will have a solid future in the NFL, but he will miss this game thanks to injury, and the combination of Derek Anderson and Nathan Peterman will struggle mightily. I predict a final score of New England 34, Buffalo 9.
