Falcons vs Buccaneers Betting Picks and Prediction for Week 7

Falcons vs Buccaneers Betting Picks and Prediction for Week 7

Written by on October 20, 2023

One off-season NFL transaction that has gone under the radar has been the Atlanta Falcons’ trade for cornerback Jeff Okudah. He struggled in the Lions’ system, and they didn’t pick up the fifth-year option on his rookie deal, sending him to Atlanta instead. The Falcons were looking for an inexpensive corner to put out there opposite shutdown corner A.J. Terrell. Okudah has shown a new level of physicality and ability to cover in a man defense. Maybe he just needed a change of scenery, but if he keeps playing this well, the Falcons will have to make re-signing him a priority. The Falcons visit Tampa Bay this weekend trailing the Bucs by a half-game in the NFC South, so don’t miss our NFL betting preview of this key divisional game between Falcons vs Buccaneers.

Week 7 NFL Falcons vs Buccaneers Betting Odds: When the Detroit Lions drafted Jeff Okudah, they expected him to come in and start and make a difference immediately.

Why should you bet on the Atlanta Falcons?

Desmond Ridder is struggling in his first full season leading the Atlanta offense. One reason for the Falcons’ offensive struggles against Washington last week was the three interceptions that Ridder threw. He did go 28 of 47 for 307 yards with two touchdown passes, but Ridder’s picks just turned the tide more than the touchdowns helped. Washington was able to bottle up the Falcons’ running game, holding Tyler Allgeier to 51 yards and Bijan Robinson to just 37. Ridder is still the starter going into Week 7 as the team has committed to him as the franchise quarterback, at least for now.

The Falcons’ offense has only averaged 16.5 points per game, 29th in the league. On defense, they permit 20.0, which ranks 14th and would be a decent number if the offense weren’t struggling so mightily. If you like the Falcons, you see them breaking through against a Tampa Bay defense that has done well against the run to this point and getting some turnovers from a Buccaneers team that only managed a pair of field goals at home against Detroit last week.

Why should you put your money on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

After a strong 2-0 start, the Bucs have dropped two of their last three games. Baker Mayfield went 19 of 37 for 206 yards and an interception, and Rachaad White only picked up 26 yards on seven carries. Despite Mayfield’s relatively strong ball security through six games, the Tampa Bay offense ranks just 25th in the league, scoring 18.0 points per game.

The Tampa Bay defense has been stout for the most part, allowing just 17.6 points per game, which ranks eighth overall. The pass defense is giving up 265 yards per game, but they also have posted 15 sacks and six interceptions. The run defense is limiting the opposition to 83.8 yards per contest.

Falcons vs Buccaneers Final Score and Prediction

When the Falcons win, they do it with the running game. Tampa Bay’s defense is stronger against the run than the pass. When Desmond Ridder has faced third-and-long situations this year, he has had a hard time moving the ball down the field, and pressure in the pocket has forced him to make poor decisions throwing the ball. I see Tampa Bay ramping up that defense and getting enough tackles for loss and other setbacks to get the win. I predict a final score of Tampa Bay 20, Atlanta 13.
