2019 NFL Preseason Week 4 Odds, Preview & Predictions

Written by on August 26, 2019

We’re heading into the last week of the 2019 preseason for the 32 teams of the National Football League. While Week 3 tends to offer the greatest similarity to the regular season, as the starters stay in as long as a half to provide a “dress rehearsal,” Week 4 often features few, if any, skill starters, as the reserves battle for those last spots on the roster. This means that sports betting is often very unpredictable, as it can be hard to speculate on how players so far down the depth chart will perform, particularly as coaches keep their schemes simple so as to avoid letting their division rivals get too much on film to prepare for. Even so, wagering on these games can be fun — and profitable. Check out the Preseason Week 4 schedule as well as our NFL betting thoughts on the matchups.

2019 NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds, Preview & Predictions

Thursday, August 29

Minnesota at Buffalo (7:00pm ET)

Two preseason unbeatens clash in Buffalo on Thursday night — and both teams needed some momentum going into the regular season. The Vikings’ offense seems to be clicking — and the Bills are showing some swagger. Given the passion that Buffalo’s fans show — and both teams’ desire to avoid injuries — I’m taking Buffalo to win.

Indianapolis at Cincinnati (7:00pm ET)

Indianapolis just saw quarterback Andrew Luck retire at the age of 29 because of yet another lingering injury — this time a high ankle sprain. Now the Colts turn to Jacoby Brissett to lead the offense; will he get more time than a starter typically does to give him some exposure? I see the Colts playing it safe. Give me Cincinnati to win.

Philadelphia at N.Y. Jets (7:00pm ET)

The Eagles will be looking to protect Carson Wentz, while the Jets will look to do the same for Sam Darnold. Philadelphia will likely give Josh McCown a lot of reps leading the offense, though, so I’m taking Philly to win.

Pittsburgh at Carolina (7:00pm ET, NFL Network)

Pittsburgh’s defense has been surprisingly good in this preseason, while Carolina remains a bit of an enigma. Give me Pittsburgh to win.

Atlanta at Jacksonville (7:00pm ET)

Jacksonville has not looked good in the opening weeks of the Nick Foles era. The big problems have come on defense, though — and the Jaguars were relying on that side of the ball to contend. I like the Falcons to win.

Detroit at Cleveland (7:30pm ET)

The Browns are rolling into the regular season, while the Detroit Lions have looked like a mess this entire preseason. Give me the Dawg Pound to root the backups to a Cleveland win.

N.Y. Giants at New England (7:30pm ET)

The Giants have beaten the Patriots in the Super Bowl twice in the Brady-Belichick era. Even with reserves on the field, there’s no way the Pats lose to the G-men at home. Give me New England to win.

Baltimore at Washington (7:30pm ET)

Washington has chaos at their quarterback position, as Case Keenum looks like the early starter. Baltimore has had terrific defense and efficient offense so far in the preseason. I like the Ravens to win.

Tennessee at Chicago (8:00pm ET)

Tennessee could only put up six points on Pittsburgh at home in Week 3 of the preseason. Chicago’s defense is better, and now Tennessee goes on the road. Give me Chicago to win.

Tampa Bay at Dallas (8:00pm ET)

Dallas’ defense has been surprisingly good — including a shutout against a game Houston offense. Tampa Bay brings in a lot of uncertainty on offense. Give me Dallas to win.

Kansas City at Green Bay (8:00pm ET)

How much will Andy Reid show of his offense up in Green Bay? The Chiefs have the much better unit — but Reid never puts too much on the line in these preseason games. Give me Green Bay to win.

Miami at New Orleans (8:00pm ET)

New Orleans at home in a prime-time slot? Miami comes in with Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh Rosen as the two best choices to lead their offense. Taysom Hill should lead the Saints’ offense, and he might be better than both of the Dolphins’ signal callers. Give me the Saints to win.

L.A. Rams at Houston (8:00pm ET)

Lamar Miller (ACL) is done for the Texans — and I see Houston going ultraconservative on offense. But will the Rams do anything different? Give me Houston to win.

Arizona at Denver (9:00pm ET)

I’m not picking the Cardinals to win any games this year. So give me Denver to win.

L.A. Chargers at San Francisco (10:00pm ET, NFL Network)

I don’t expect to see Philip Rivers to take the field for the Chargers, while San Francisco is still trying to figure aspects of their scheme out. Give me San Francisco to win.

Oakland at Seattle (10:00pm ET)

Pete Carroll loves to win preseason games, and his Seahawks play much better at home. I like Seattle to win.
