2019 College Football Week 6 Odds, Overview & Top Picks

Written by on October 2, 2019

With the arrival of October come meaningful conference games in college football, which means that serious consequences will start to come with wins and losses. #14 Iowa visits #19 Michigan this weekend, and if the Wolverines lose, their College Football Playoff chances, already reeling after that shellacking by Wisconsin, will be done. Two unbeaten foes from the SEC square off when #7 Auburn and #8 Florida tangle. Clemson slipped to #2 after barely surviving North Carolina, but we are used to seeing at least one near disaster from the Tigers as they steamroll their way to another playoff. The play of Jalen Hurts has been magnificent for #4 Oklahoma to this point, and the Sooners do not have a real test until they face Texas. What can you expect to see this week? We have College Football Week 6 odds and suggestions for some of the key matchups.

2019 College Football Week 6 Odds, Overview & Top Picks

TCU (+2.5) at Iowa State

The Horned Frogs took a disappointing loss at home against SMU two weeks ago and now find themselves unranked. They visit an Iowa State team that also needs a win desperately if they want to stay in the Big 12 title conversation. Two of the best coaches in the sport square off when TCU’s Gary Patterson and Iowa State’s Matt Campbell meet. For this game, I have to go with the home team. College Football Week 6 Prediction: Iowa State 20, TCU 16

Cal (+14) at Oregon

Cal will not have starting quarterback Chase Garbers, who was really just starting to take off when he went down. Devon Modster takes over the offense, a transfer from UCLA. He did not do well against Arizona State last week when he came off the bench, and Oregon has a top-10 defense. Yes, the Ducks yielded that late comeback against Auburn in the season opener, but since then they have been steamrolling the opposition and could be the only Pac-12 team that would make the CFP if they win the conference. College Football Week 6 Prediction: Oregon 41, Cal 17

Purdue (+16.5) at Penn State

The Boilermakers are still playing without Elijah Sindelar and Rondale Moore. If you haven’t been following Purdue so far this season, you might be wondering what happened to a team that had made major progress last year, even upsetting Ohio State, under coach Jeff Brohm. The injuries at key positions have piled up, and I expect Penn State to roll as a result. College Football Week 6 Prediction: Penn State 44, Purdue 10

Northwestern (+7) at Nebraska

Both of these teams have covered just once in five games to start the season. Nebraska quarterback Adrian Martinez has been touted as having one of the most talented arms in the Big Ten, but he definitely did not show it in the team’s embarrassment against Ohio State. I see him having a big bounceback game. Could Northwestern sneak in and cover? Maybe, but their quarterback play from Hunter Johnson has been dismal so far. Given that this game is in Lincoln, I’m liking the Cornhuskers. College Football Week 6 Prediction: Nebraska 30, Northwestern 13

Oklahoma (-35) at Kansas

Kansas almost pulled off an amazing upset at Oklahoma last season. Lincoln Riley certainly remembers that and likely wants some redemption. However, Kansas is now coached by Les Miles and has more talent. Their offense has a slow, grinding rhythm, which will keep the game from turning into a track meet, and Oklahoma’s defense still has some holes. Given that the Sooners may be looking down the road at Texas next week, I see the Jayhawks covering at home. College Football Week 6 Prediction: Oklahoma 48, Kansas 20

Iowa (+5.5) at Michigan

Michigan rebounded from their humiliation at Wisconsin by blanking Rutgers, 52-0. However, Iowa has been the better team overall through this point in the season. Can Michigan eke out a win at home? Yes, but I don’t like them to cover. College Football Week 6 Prediction: Michigan 23, Iowa 20
