Super Early 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Betting Predictions

The Villanova Wildcats won their third national championship in men’s basketball on Monday night, delivering a rout of the Michigan Wolverines that was not even as close as the final score indicated. Now, though, with the nets in San Antonio cut down and the confetti cleaned up, it’s time to consider your NCAA Basketball betting options for next year’s champions — a futures wager that is already up on the boards. Take a look at our thoughts on some of the contenders for the coming season.

Super Early 2018-19 NCAA Basketball Betting Predictions

Kansas Jayhawks

The Kansas Jayhawks are set to lose Svi Mykhailiuk and Devonte’ Graham to the pro ranks, but Bill Self will gain transfers Dedric and K.J. Lawson from Memphis and Charlie Moore from Cal, who spent the last year sitting out their transfer season. They have blue-chip guards Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes and center David McCormack coming in their next recruiting class. It’s likely that either Malik Newman or Udoka Azubuike will return as well. If all of these stars align, Kansas would have to be your early NCAA Basketball Betting favorite to win the Big Dance next year.

Duke Blue Devils

As far as the Duke Blue Devils go, they’re about to say goodbye to Marvin Bagley III and Grayson Allen, and Trevon Duval and Wendell Carter may head to the pros as well. Don’t feel sorry for Duke, though, as they have the top three recruits in the 2018 class coming in (R.J. Barrett, Cam Reddish, and Zion Williamson). They also have Tre Jones, the ninth-ranked recruit, coming in. They also hope Gary Trent Jr. (who shot 40% from downtown and had the best turnover rate on the team) returns. All of that talent will push Duke well into March Madness next year.

Villanova Wildcats

Can the Villanova Wildcats contend yet again? Mikal Bridges and Jalen Brunson are almost certain to head to the draft, but there is a lot of talent that could stick around, such as Omari Spellman, Donte DiVincenzo, Collin Gillespie, Phil Booth and Eric Paschall. DiVincenzo would become the hub of the offense if he stays, and blue-chip recruit Jahvon Quinerly could run the point. Brandon Slater and Cole Swider are another pair of solid recruits who will replace some of the outside scoring headed to the NBA.

Michigan Wolverines

The Michigan Wolverines are wondering whether Moritz Wagner will head to the draft. Sports Illustrated had him at #61 on their latest Big Board for the NBA draft, but he played lights-out in the NCAA tournament. If Wagner returns for his senior season, Michigan would have four starters coming back, with Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rakhman leaving, along with Duncan Robinson, who was the Big Ten’s Sixth Man of the Year. With Zavier Simpson and Jordan Poole returning, and with a recruiting class in the nation’s top 20, Michigan could win the Big Ten again and find themselves in the late rounds of March Madness again.

Kentucky Wildcats

The one-and-done phenomenon didn’t work out quite as the Kentucky Wildcats had planned. That means, though, that some of their talented crew should stick around. Expect Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Kevin Knox to say good-bye, but Jarred Vanderbilt, Quade Green and P.J. Washington should all stick around and try to upgrade their draft positioning for 2019. Kentucky comes in as one of the NCAA Basketball Betting favorites for the 2019 season. Their recruiting class is ranked sixth in the nation, and it consists of a trio of blue-chip guards in Tyler Herro, Immanuel Quickley, and Keldon Johnson.

Virginia Cavaliers

Were the Virginia Cavaliers just a one-hit wonder? You already know how their season ended in historically awful dumpster-fire fashion, as they became the first 1-seed ever to lose to a 16-seed. Losing De’Andre Hunter to injury made a huge difference, and if he comes back to bump up his draft stock for 2019, he would be one of four returning starters, alongside Jack Salt, y Jerome, and Kyle Guy, so they will come with good NCAA Basketball Betting Odds. They are graduating Devon Hall, who was a major linchpin in a stifling defense, but I expect Virginia to be right back in that mix atop the ACC. But that monkey on their back, as far as postseason performance goes, just grew another three sizes.
