Top NCAAB Betting Picks of the Week – December 4th Edition

Written by on December 4, 2018

Some conferences have their schedules getting underway this week, while others still have a few more weeks before their league slates open. Some of the upsets that we saw during neutral-site tournaments may have rocked your confidence in sports betting on college basketball, but now that we’re preparing for the meat of the season, the elite should start to separate themselves from the rest of the competition, and teams will start showing their true identities. We’ve identified three primo NCAAB betting picks for you to consider from college hoops.

Top NCAAB Betting Picks of the Week – December 4th Edition

Monday, December 3

Iowa at Michigan State (6:30pm ET, FS1)

Iowa has picked up some impressive wins this season, with their victory over Oregon standing out the most at least at this point. Their loss came in their Big Ten opener as they lost to Wisconsin despite 19 points, 12 boards and four assists from Tyler Cook and 11 points apiece from Jordan Bohanan and Luka Garza. Despite their 6-1 record, though, Iowa has covered just twice in those seven contests and in just eight of their last 31 games away from home. Michigan State has lost both of their games against potentially elite competition, losing to Louisville and Kansas. However, they have beaten the likes of Texas and UCLA, and they have covered in four of their last five games. The line here is 10 points, and I think Michigan State has the consistency to put Iowa away. The Hawkeyes fell off the table in the second half against Wisconsin, and Michigan State has an even tougher lineup. NCAAB Betting Prediction: Michigan State 77, Iowa 64

Rutgers at Wisconsin (8:00pm ET, Big Ten Network)

Wisconsin comes in here as a 14 ½-point favorite after a 7-1 start to the season. They moved to a 1-0 Big Ten record when they knocked off Iowa by six, behind 20 points from D’Mitrik Trice, who also grabbed seven rebounds. Ethan Happ put up 13 points and seven boards, along with give assists. Wisconsin has covered in seven straight conference games and in 11 of 14 overall. The home team in this rivalry has covered in five straight meetings. Rutgers (5-2, 0-1 Big Ten) lost to Michigan State by 11 in their conference opener despite a double-double from Eugene Omoruyi (16 points, 11 rebounds) and 11 points from Peter Kiss. The Scarlet Knights struggle with their shooting (42.2% for the season) and especially with their free throws (57.5%). Rutgers has a way of skating through the non-conference portion of their scheduling before settling down to the bottom when Big Ten play opens. It looks like that has already started to happen. Given that the home team covers in this matchup regularly and given the off start Rutgers already has had in conference play, I like Wisconsin to win, 80-63.

Wednesday, December 5

Temple at Villanova (8:30pm ET, FS1)

The annual rivalry game between Temple and Villanova is set for Wednesday night. Temple comes in with a 7-1 record, with impressive wins over Georgia, California and Missouri and their only setback coming against VCU on a night when they could only muster 51 points. Since then, they have won three straight heading into their big showdown against the Wildcats. Senior guard Shizz Alston Jr. is the Owls’ leading scorer and is the hub of their offense. The Owls also play solid defense and could give the Wildcats a scare, especially given how shakily Villanova’s season has started. Villanova has gone 6-2 to start the season, but the two losses have been considerable, including a 27-point setback against Michigan and then an eight-point overtime loss to Furman. Since then, though, the Wildcats have run off four straight wins, including a six-point win over then-#14 Florida State. Senior forward Eric Paschall is the team’s leading scorer, while sophomore forward Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree has established himself as a force inside, leading the team in rebounds in five straight games. While Temple will push Villanova, I see the Wildcats emerging at the end with the win. NCAAB Betting Prediction: Villanova 78, Temple 73
