2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic Odds & Betting Preview

Detroit Golf Club is the site for this week’s PGA Tour event – the Rocket Mortgage Classic. At this writing, Peter Kuest is the leader after Thursday’s round, sitting at eight under par. Four other golfers are tied for second, one strike back of Kuest. There are a few big names in this tournament, such as Collin Morikawa and the defending champion, Tony Finau, but there are other golfers who could step up and win, given that this is not a designated event.

Let’s look at the PGA betting lines for the contenders (+10000 and better) along with some wager card suggestions.

Golf News: PGA Rocket Mortgage Classic Preview

Rickie Fowler is tops in this field in Strokes Gained: Total over the last half-year. Since April 1, he has entered eight tournaments and finished in the top 20 seven times. This includes a T5 at the U.S. Open and a T9 at The Memorial Tournament. He did miss the cut at the Rocket Mortgage Classic last year, but this time around his metrics are much better. In this field, he is third in Strokes Gained: Approach, fourth in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green and fifth in Strokes Gained: Putting.

Brian Harman almost came away victorious at the Travelers Championship, finishing T2. He also cracked the top ten at the RBC Heritage. He also misses a lot of cuts, but when he does well, he zips up the leaderboard. He is outstanding on par-4 holes, and Detroit has plenty of those. His driving accuracy is elite, and he can scramble from challenging lies. In this field, he is 11th in Strokes Gained: Total for the last three months.

Ludvig Aberg is just 23 years old but he has top-25 finishes at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, the Travelers Championship and the RBC Canadian Open. His driving off the tee is outstanding, and in this field, he is tops in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and seventh in Strokes Gained: Total. On a weekend when the field only has a handful of elite names, this is an opportunity for a player like Aberg to snag his first PGA Tour victory.

Sam Stevens has four top-15 finishes in his last 17 starts, which include a dozen made cuts. At the Corales Puntacana Championship, he finished T3, and he was the runner-up at the Valero Texas Open. He is in the top 40 on the tour in 2023 for Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and Strokes Gained: Tee to Green. His putter has been solid this year; at the Fortinet Champoinship, he gained 1.04 strokes on the green, and he gained 1.73 strokes putting at the Farmers Insurance Open en route to a T13 finish. Those tournament both had Poa Annua greens, just like Detroit does this week.

Lee Hodges has made 10 cuts in his last 15 tournaments, including five top-25 finishes. His best result has been T6 at the Valero Texas Open. He is in the top 70 on the tour in Strokes Gained: Off the Tee and Strokes Gained: Tee to Green. He gained 1.88 strokes with his putter at the Farmers Insurance Open and 0.80 strokes on the green at The Genesis Invitational.
