Golf Betting Odds and Analysis for 2023 PGA Charles Schwab Challenge

Golf Betting Odds and Analysis for 2023 PGA Charles Schwab Challenge

Going into this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, the press is all about Michael Block, a PGA club professional who ended up finishing in a tie for 15th at the PGA Championship last weekend. That gives him a slot in next year’s PGA Championship and was the best club pro finish at that major in 37 years. He also got a sponsor’s exemption into this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, in Fort Worth, Texas, and headed right down from New York to start practicing at Colonial Country Club. The field here won’t be as impressive as it was last week, but we still have Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth, Collin Morikawa, and some other top players – and Block, whose hole-in-one on Sunday was the first by any golfer in a PGA Championship since 2020 and the first by a club pro at a PGA Championship in seven years. The seven-iron that he used on the hole has brought him offers as high as $50,000. Read on to get the latest PGA betting odds for the contenders (+10000 and better) along with our wager card suggestions.

Colonial Country Club is not the longest course in the world, running 7,209 yards at par-70. The course record is 61, held by several golfers, and it’s not unusual to see winners well into the double digits below par by the end of Sunday. You have to be accurate off the tee and make your shots, but there are definitely tougher courses on the Tour.

Jordan Spieth

won this tournament in 2016; since 2013, he also has come in second three times and finished in the top ten four other times. He has also missed a cut here during that time, but on the whole, he has dominated Colonial. At Oak Hill, he gained at least 1.08 strokes on approach on three of the four days and gained strokes off the tee each day. He has had a strong 2023, with four top-four results in five tournaments, and he is sixth in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green, eighth in Strokes Gained: Ball-Striking and fifth in Strokes Gained: Total over his last 24 rounds against this field.

Stephan Jaeger

made the PGA Championship at the last minute as an alternate and ended up making the cut, but a tough Sunday saw him drop to T50. Before that, he looked like he would crack the top ten, with 7.81 strokes gained from tee to green between Thursday and Saturday. He has made 16 cuts in 19 tournaments, and in this field, he is seventh in Strokes Gained: Tee to Green and 12th in Strokes Gained: Ball-Striking against this field over his last 24 rounds.

Eric Cole

was another surprise T15 finisher at the PGA Championship, gaining 8.72 strokes from tee to green across the four days. That gives him three top-25 finishes in his last four tournaments, including that T5 down in Mexico. He also took second at the Honda Classic, almost tracking down Chris Kirk. Over his last 24 rounds, he is ninth in this field in strokes Gained: Tee to Green, 10th in Strokes Gained: Total, and 19th in Strokes Gained: Ball-Striking.

And what about

Michael Block

(+40000)? Well, he thinks that Colonial is a much better fit for his game than Oak Hill was last week, with ryegrass around the greens and the tight fairways. Is he worth a flyer? It’s your money, but he is riding high and has all the confidence in the world right now.
