Toronto at Montreal

Toronto did win their last game — but that was against the dreadful Ottawa Redblacks. McLeod Bethel-Thompson looked solid in his return to the starting quarterback role, going 27 for 36 for 300 yards, a pair of touchdowns and a pick. S.J. Green caught 10 of those passes for 170 yards. On defense, Toronto held Ottawa to 21 points, and Cleyon Laing posted six tackles and two sacks. Montreal lost in Winnipeg last time out, 35-24. Vernon Adams Jr went 19 for 32 for 266 yards and a pair of touchdowns — but also four interceptions. Quan Bray was the bright spot in the Montreal receiving corps, catching five balls for 99 yards and a score. The Alouettes’ defense was somewhat porous, giving up 35 points, although they did have three takeaways. They should have the tools on both sides of the ball to roll Toronto at home. Final Score Prediction: Montreal 34, Toronto 23

Saskatchewan at British Columbia

Saskatchewan will look to take out some frustration against BC after losing by two to Calgary in their last game. Cody Fajardo threw for 209 yards and a score, but he also had a pick. Saskatchewan’s offensive struggles should abate a bit against the Lions. British Columbia has won four of their last five, but those four wins came against other teams in the lower tiers of the CFL. Facing an angry Saskatchewan team will not look promising for the Lions, especially after they only mustered six points against Edmonton last week. Final Score Prediction: Saskatchewan 31, BC 13

Saturday, October 19

Ottawa at Hamilton

Ottawa finally made a change at starting quarterback for their game against Toronto last week, letting Will Arndt have a go after seven straight losses. He threw for 288 yards and a pair of scores — but also threw for three picks. On the year he has 473 passing yards, those two touchdowns and five total interceptions. Hamilton comes in off the bye week; two weeks ago, they routed Edmonton, 42-14. Dane Evans threw for 277 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the victory. Ottawa has dropped eight straight and has also dropped four of five in the division. I don’t see Hamilton having much trouble steamrolling the Redblacks. Final Score Prediction: Hamilton 44, Ottawa 13

Winnipeg at Calgary

Winnipeg rides in with the momentum of their win over Montreal last week. The Blue Bombers overcame a poor passing day from Chris Streveler, as he had a pair of picks, but tailback Andrew Harris carried the ball 166 yards and scored a touchdown on 24 attempts. On defense, Winnipeg held firm, limiting the Alouettes to 24 points behind four interceptions. Calgary also won last week, beating Saskatchewan, 30-28. Bo Levi Mitchell went 23 for 29 for 294 yards and a pair of scores, with a pick. The defense tended to bend but not break, behind eight tackles from linebacker Wynton McManis. Calgary has won five of six and now rank second in the league in points permitted. Final Score Prediction: Calgary 30, Winnipeg 20
