Updated Odds in the Drivers’ and Constructors’ Championships

As we approach the start of the 2021 Formula 1 campaign, let’s take a look at the latest sports betting odds for the drivers’ and constructors’ championships. Given the huge step back that Ferrari took a year ago, sliding closer to the midfield, it will be interesting to see if Alpine (formerly Renault) or Aston Martin (formerly Racing Point) can jump up to third. The oddsmakers don’t think so, but with Sebastian Vettel leaving Ferrari for Aston Martin, there should be plenty of motivation for him to help bring that team up.

We have the latest F1 odds for both titles for you to peruse as you consider your wagering strategy.

Why is George Russell so high up the odds list? Because part of the terms of Lewis Hamilton’s extension with Mercedes involved a provision that would allow for a driver shift that would move Russell up to the top squad at any time. Williams is the lower driving team associated with Mercedes…which seems to show the sands shifting beneath the feet of Valtteri Bottas, who has long been Hamilton’s second fiddle on the top circuit. Given that Bottas has tried to take the top spot from Hamilton on multiple occasions in the past, and given that this is Bottas’ last season — almost certainly — with Mercedes, it is time for him to show his stuff for another team. He can keep up with Hamilton in qualifying but just has a hard time putting together complete races like Hamilton can.

Can McLaren pull off a third-place finish in the Constructors’ Championship again? There was a time when McLaren was one of the top competitors in the series, and after almost a decade in the midfield, McLaren has now added Daniel Ricciardo as a team leader. There is plenty of motivation for Ricciardo to start returning to podiums, and with Ferrari still very much in flux, there is a lot of value to like on this wager.

Fernando Alonso should have plenty of motivation to get back on a podium for the first time in seven years. However, with Hamilton, Max Verstappen, Bottas and the second Red Bull team all looking to be more competitive, with Ferrari looking for a bit of redemption, the competition will be even tougher than it was last year.

Sebastian Vettel should have a bounceback year with Aston Martin. His car at Ferrari had limitations at the rear end that did not suit his driving strengths, but as Aston Martin he should not have those problems. He is also the top driver once again; he does not have the likes of Charles Leclerc fighting him instead of supporting him; last year’s collision between the two at the Styrian Grand Prix was a perfect symbol of the dysfunction of their team.

Ferrari is another group looking for some redemption. The power unit they had last year left them as many as 65bhp down because of the technical directives that came about as a result of FIA investigating Ferrari’s 2019 engine, and the rear end instability should have been resolved as well. With Vettel gone, Charles Leclerc has no excuses as far as a lack of support, and he should be able to put up some wins, shouldn’t he?
