When it’s time to drive a low downforce, high horsepower package, Martin Truex Jr has been the best driver in the sport. He showed this last week, dominating at Darlington. He almost won the first race at Dover in 2020, but a lap car driven by Aric Almirola slowed him down, and Denny Hamlin took advantage for the win.

Kyle Larson has the best car and is the best driver when it comes to laps this season. He got hampered at Darlington last week because there is almost nowhere to pass anyone. Can he take advantage on The Monster Mile?

Denny Hamlinhad a faulty setup for his car last week, but he still had the second best running position on average. At Dover last year, he had the top car in the first race, and he was right there this past Sunday until a lug nut came loose, necessitating a green flag pit stop in the third stage.

Joey Logano was headed for a top-three finish at Darlington, but a green flag penalty that came down in stage 3 kept him out. This low downforce, high horsepower arrangement seems ideal for him, but there are too many days where something screwy keeps him from cashing in.

Kevin Harvick has bum luck with setups this season. He dominated in the second Dover race a  year ago, and he could have done the same in the first race but a track bar issue kept him from taking advantage. As soon as that setup gets right, though, get ready for Harvick to go on a tear.

Kyle Busch has traditionally struggled in the spring race at Dover. He did come in tenth back in 2019, but that’s the best result he has posted here in this event. Given the high bar we usually expect from Busch, I would put my money elsewhere.

Ryan Blaney rolled the dice in the second Dover race last year, opting not to pit while the competition caution was going on. He ended up leading 37 laps, but stage 3 ended up giving him more than he could handle.

Christopher Bell was in fifth place with just five laps left to go last week, but a flat tire sent him into pit row. Bell does extremely well at high horsepower, low downforce tracks, and he gives you a nice value option to add to your card.

Brad Keselowski had the second most laps run in the top five in low downforce contests a year ago, dominating in New Hampshire and Richmond. However, his setup in these events has been a problem. He has done much better in high downforce races, so you might leave him off this week.

Chase Elliott had problems with track position in the first Dover race last year and then crashed out early in the second. He is not defending his Cup Series title that well this year, struggling to find that 2020 form.
