NASCAR 2022 Cup Series Betting Analysis: Goodyear 400

Last week’s NASCAR Cup Series action was pushed to Monday due to a red-flag delay on Sunday that pushed the restart to the next day, but Chase Elliott’s patience brought him the win at the DuraMAX Drydene 400. Elliott led the last 53 laps of the 400-lap event and pulled away from runner-up Ricky Stenhouse Jr. Stenhouse was thrilled himself, as this was just his second finish in the top 20 for the season and his first runner-up since March 2021 in the dirt at Bristol Motor Speedway. Overall, the race featured a dozen caution periods and 17 lead changes. This Sunday, the circuit moves down the Atlantic seaboard to Darlington, South Carolina, for the Goodyear 400. Sunday’s action starts at 3:30 pm Eastern, with the telecast on FS1 and the radio call on MRN and SiriusXM. Check out the NASCAR betting odds for each driver and our wager card suggestions.

At the last Darlington race, Martin Truex Jr drew a speeding penalty on the last pit stop that kept him from winning. In the spring 2021 race, he won way too easily.

Kyle Larson went into Mile #500 of the 2021 Southern 500 trying to “video game” the finish, as he put it. Going into the last turn, he didn’t brake at all, and he was almost able to ride the wall to a dramatic win.

Denny Hamlin won in the fall 2021 race at Darlington, keeping Kyle Larson from passing him multiple times despite having a slower car. Hamlin finds ways to win, and Darlington is one of his favorite tracks.

Ross Chastain has polished his style just enough to turn from a crash wreck to an aggressive, fast driver. He is improving each week, and his style should help him be right there at the end.

Chase Elliott was in position to win both Darlington races in 2020, but wrecks on the last lap ended his day both times.

William Byron had two straight top-five finishes at Darlington before he blew a tire early in the fall race last year.

Kevin Harvick won both Darlington races in 2020. Last year was a struggle for him and his team, but at Darlington he finished fifth and sixth.

Alex Bowman was right there for the win in two races at Darlington in 2020. In the race last fall, he blew a tire and ran into the wall early on and never could recover.

Chris Buescher went long in the fall race last year and earned a caution. He came ninth, but he was contending for 300 miles before he took that risk.

Joey Logano and Team Penske have never fared that well at Darlington, and after a strong start to the 2022 season, they have struggled just about everywhere, so this isn’t a week I would put a ton of money on this car.

Ryan Blaney has just one top-ten finish in his last ten races at Darlington. In three of his last four races here, he hasn’t even cracked the top 20, so you might look elsewhere.
