Kevin Harvick

Harvick finally got his first win of 2019 three weeks ago in New Hampshire, taking some big risks and making them pay off. At Pocono, he picked up the pole position and led the most laps in the race. He is the defending champion at the Consumers Energy 400, having won here in 2018. That was his second win at Michigan International Speedway, after also winning this race in 2014. In his last five starts on this oval, he has led 172 laps, more than any other active driver.

Martin Truex Jr.

Truex Jr. is still looking for his first win at Michigan International Speedway, but he has two top-five and three top-10 finishes here, including a third-place finish here in the June race. He has led 144 laps in the last five races here, third among active drivers. He is tied for the lead with race wins in 2019 with four victories, and he is fifth in points for the season.

Kyle Busch

Busch has just one career victory at Michigan International Speedway, but he has the best average among active drivers over the last five races here, with top-10 finishes in all five and three straight top-five finishes leading 76 laps during that time. However, his last win here came before the track was resurfaced seven years ago. He had a disappointing finish at last week’s GoBowling at the Glen, so you can bet that he will have plenty of motivation to have a better result this week. He is second overall in the point standings heading into this weekend.

Denny Hamlin

Hamlin has won two races at Michigan International Speedway, although both of those wins predate the 2012 resurfacing. In 15 starts here since then, he has two top-five finishes and five top-10 finishes. He did start the June 2018 race at the pole, although he settled for eighth place. He won at Pocono two weeks ago and almost won at New Hampshire the week before that. He now has three wins on the season after going all of 2018 without a single victory, and he is fifth in the points standings.

Kurt Busch

Busch almost won the June 2019 race at Michigan International Speedway, finishing second behind Joey Logano. He has three career victories on this ovaland is seventh in the overall standings with one win in 2019.

Kyle Larson

Larson is racing for the playoffs — and Michigan International Speedway could be his best hope. He won three straight races on this oval between 2016 and 2017, and without a single win in 2019, he needs this to help avoid missing the playoffs. He has three top-five finishes in his last six races, including a runner-up finish at Chicago. He sits just 37 points above the playoff cutoff line, so expect him to put together a big day.
