The Favorites

Martin Truex Jr is the hottest driver in NASCAR right now. He has never won at Texas Motor Speedway, but he was the runner-up here two years ago. He also had never won at Martinsville until last week, so picking against him might be an unwise use of your money. Denny Hamlin won the spring race at Texas Motor Speedway, his third victory on this track in his career. Given how Hamlin has driven in 2019, making a bit of a revival to his career, it’s hard to see him not advancing to the Championship 4. Joey Logano has won just once at Texas Motor Speedway, at the spring race in 2014, but he has six top-seven finishes here in his last seven races, with a 17th-place finish in the spring race this year bringing that streak to an end. Given his record here, he’s a strong driver to consider. Kevin Harvick has been one of NASCAR’s top drivers at Texas Motor Speedway since the track was repaved. He’s driven here seven times since then, and he has won twice, cracked the top five four other times and come in eighth. Truex Jr does not need to win this race to move on to the Championship 4, but Harvick is still not guaranteed one of those four slots, so expect his motivation to skew a little higher. Ryan Blaney looked impressive in Martinsville with a fifth-place finish. Last year, he took pole position in qualifying at this race, and took runner-up at the end of the day. If he can do that again — or even pull off the win — he would clinch a spot in the Championship 4 in Miami. Kyle Busch had a disappointing race in Martinsville, coming in 14th. He won the spring race here in 2018, his only win at Texas Motor Speedway since the repave, but he had a lot more big finishes here before the resurfacing. Kyle Larson cracked the top ten in Martinsville last week, but he needs to do even better at Texas Motor Speedway and ISM if he wants to make the Championship 4. He came in fifth here last year and was a runner-up at the spring race here in 2017, but he’s not one of the stronger choices here. Chase Elliott would love to forget Martinsville after coming in 36th. He has to win at either Texas Motor Speedway or ISM if he wants to make the Championship 4. The odds don’t look good for him here, as he came in 13th here at the spring race, his worst showing ever at this track.
