2019 Malaysia MotoGP Odds & Betting Preview

As the MotoGP series enters Round 18, the top circuit championship has already been clinched by Marc Marquez. He has had a tremendous season, scoring 375 of the 381 points that Honda has amassed as a team this year. He could become the first rider ever to break the 400-point barrier in a season, with this race and the Valencia MotoGP still on the schedule. He could also deliver a win for Honda, as they trail Ducati by a single point for the season. Marquez has won 11 of the first 17 races of the season, but his win last time out was far from certain until Maverick Vinales crashed with three corners to go on the last lap. Can Marquez win his twelfth race of the season? Will Vinales get redemption? Don’t miss our MotoGP betting preview of this week’s clash.

The Course

The weather could get interesting, as rain is predicted for Saturday afternoon. Last year, the track got up to 53 degrees Celsius (127 degrees Fahrenheit) which was hard on the tires. The air temperature last year was 34 degrees Celsius (93.2 degrees Fahrenheit), which makes for a challenging day, particularly when the humidity is high. The course at Sepang features a front straight that is 920 meters long and a back straight just a little shorter, so watch out for riders looking for drafts — and to get grid penalties for doing so. All in all, this is a race that will feature a great deal of intrigue as the rest of the best in the top circuit vie for that last spot on the podium and the lower circuits sort out their standings.

The Favorites

Given that Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso are locked into finishing first and second in the season’s rider championship — for the third year in a row — it will be interesting to see how much motivation exists for the two of them. The contenders for the last spot on the world championship podium include Alex Rins (183 points), Maverick Vinales (176), Danilo Petrucci (169), Fabio Quartararo (163) and Valentino Rossi (153), who has nine world titles himself). Jack Miller is a distant eighth but could still crack the top five. If you follow the lower tiers of MotoGP, the Moto3 title has also been determined, but the Moto2 title is still up for grabs. Alex Marquez (the younger brother of the MotoGP champion) leads Tom Luthi by 28 points. In Moto3, the champion is Lorenzo Dalla Porta, but there are four riders within 35 points of one another for the battle for second place, with two races to go.
