Jack Hermansson (20-4) vs Jared Cannonier (12-4)

features two solid contenders in the UFC middleweight division who are ready to move into the classification’s elite. Hermansson debuted in UFC with a win over Scott Askham, but then Cezar Ferreira took him to the woodshed. Hermansson adjusted by changing his approach to ground-and-pound, and he picked up some impressive wins before Thiago Santos dropped the hammer on him. He delivered a guillotine submission of David Branch back in March, needing just 49 seconds, and then he took apart Ronaldo Souza in April, a fight that showed his versatility as he won on his feet instead of needing to go to the ground. That sort of flexibility would serve him well as a middleweight contender. Cannonier has competed in every classification between heavyweight and middleweight since joining UFC in 2015. When he won a huge decision against Ion Cutelaba as a light heavyweight, he started to catch the notice of the powers that be in UFC. After dropping three straight, he moved down to middleweight, which has made all the difference. A win over Anderson Silva is his latest accomplishment. While he remains a bit of an enigma, if he can beat Hermansson, he would earn consideration as a contender as well. Given that we still don’t know how much strength Cannonier has at this lower weight, and given Hermansson’s unusual style, I see Hermansson hanging back and plucking points throughout the fight. Final Prediction: Hermansson wins via decision

Mark Madsen (8-0) vs Danilo Belluardo (12-4)

is an unusual bout in that we have a fighter making his UFC debut in a co-main event in Madsen. This is a nod to the Danish crowd, as Madsen won the silver medal at the 2016 Olympics in Greco-Roman wrestling, representing Denmark. Once things go to the ground, Madsen has shown the ability to win enough points to prevail on the cards. This will likely be his approach against Danilo Belluardo. Belluardo lost his UFC debut to Joel Alvarez back in June, as the ground-and-pound did not go his way. Before the bout, he looked like the sort of well-rounded pugilist that does well in UFC, but his first fight contained a great deal of disappointment. Belluardo likes to win via the ground game, but given the immense skill that Madsen holds in this area, things do not look good for the Italian. Final Prediction: Madsen wins via decision
