2023 ATP Tennis Odds: China Open Betting Lines

Written by on September 28, 2023

After a four-year absence from China due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the ATP finally returns with the 2023 China Open in Beijing. The main draw started play today, and the tournament will end on Wednesday, October 4. The field includes eight of the top ten ranked players in the world, including Carlos Alcaraz, who won at Wimbledon and is making his China debut in the ATP. He has not competed since falling to Daniil Medvedev in the semis of the U.S. Open. The only former China Open champion in the draw is Andy Murray, who won it all in 2016. The site of the tournament is Beijing’s National Tennis Center, which was constructed for the 2008 Olympic Games. Let’s take a look at some interesting matchups as you consider your ATP Tennis Betting Odds.

Holger Rune vs Felix Auger-Aliassime

First Round
Friday, September 29 at 1:50 am ET

Rune has a 37-17 record so far and has one championship this year, at the Munich Open. He came in second at the Italian Open and the Monte Carlo Masters. He is still working his way back from a back injury he incurred while the hardcourt season was going on. He has lost five matches in a row on the main court; he last played in the round robin matches at the finals of the Davis Cup, falling to Thiago Monteiro, 6-7(4), 7-6(5), 2-6.

He meets a player who has had adversity this year, as Auger-Aliassime has just a 14-15 record in 2023. His longest run in a tournament ended in the semis at the Qatar Open. He made the quarterfinals in three events (Lyon, Rotterdam, and Indian Wells). He crashed out of the U.S. Open in the first round, although he did help his doubles partner in a win at the 2023 Laver Cup. These two have split their two all-time meetings, with Rune winning more recently at the 2022 Paris Masters, rolling in straight sets. This is a game between two power servers and groundstroke hitters, but Rune has a more efficient backhand and (assuming his back is close to full health) more mobility. He also excels at drop shots to bring his opponent to the net and then deliver a big winner with the forehand.

ATP Tennis Betting Odds and Final Prediction: Rune wins in three sets

Andrey Rublev vs Cameron Norrie

First Round
Friday, September 29 at 1:50 am ET

Rublev has continued to grow as a player this year, getting to the quarterfinals at three of the Grand Slam events (with the French Open the exception). He won the championship at the Monte Carlo Masters – the only time he advanced past the round of 16 at any Masters event. He also won the Swedish Open (beating Casper Ruud in the final) and won the doubles title at the Madrid Open with Karen Khachanov. In Halle, Banja Luka, and Dubai, he was the runner-up.

Norrie started 2023 well, but the last few months have shown some regression. He made it to the finals in Buenos Aires and Auckland and then won his first title of 2023 at the Rio Open, stopping the great Carlos Alcaraz in the final. However, he crashed out of Indian Wells in the quarterfinals and did not win two matches in a row until the Italian Open, where he advanced to the fourth round. His clay season ended in the third round of the French Open. He lost in the second round at Wimbledon and lost three more matches in a row before advancing to the third round at the U.S. Open. He lost in the quarterfinals at his most recent event, the Zhuhai Championships. These two players have met four times, each winning two. Norrie won their last meeting, at Indian Wells this year, in straight sets. The surface at Beijing is faster than the surface at Indian Wells, which should favor Rublev.

ATP Tennis Betting Odds and Final Prediction: Rublev wins in three sets.
