Why should you put your money on Mainz?
Mainz suffered a disappointing home loss on Sunday as Augsburg, only two places above them in the table, came to town and waltzed out with a 1-0 win. There was plenty of shooting, as Mainz outshot the visitors, 18-11 (5-5 on target), and controlled the ball for 64 percent of the match. The match brought some physicality as the teams committed 22 fouls combined, drawing six yellow cards (four for Augsburg). Mainz tried to apply pressure, forcing nine corners and going offside six times, but it was all to no avail.
It looked like the match would turn into a track meet, as Augsburg got their goal from Florian Niederlechner in the game’s very first minute. However, after that the goalmouths both closed, and neither team was able to get on the board again. These points would have come in handy for Mainz, given how close they are to the precipice of relegation, but Augsburg was able to stretch an advantage over Mainz in the table that was just one point when the match began, but which stretched to four by the time the last whistle blew.

Dortmund almost found themselves trapped in a scoreless draw on Saturday when they visited Fortuna Dusseldorf — another team fighting relegation.
