If you have spent any amount of time scrolling through social media, you may well have come across short clips of people slapping one another in what looks like an organized event. Some of you may have dismissed the whole thing as AI or a joke video, but the reality is that Power Slap this weekend is indeed a thing, and that there is another big event right around the corner.
With that in mind, let’s get you up to speed on the sport, after which we will look at the events coming our way later this week.
What is Power Slap and What Are the Rules
While Dana White is associated with Power Slap, this is not anything like the UFC in terms of the combat style and rules.
Two opponents take turns slapping each other until a winner is declared.
Each matchup starts with a coin toss to decide who gets to slap first, with strict rules in place to ensure that each slap is indeed a legitimate shot and not a foul.
There are 3–5 rounds in each match, with scoring based on damage, effectiveness of the slap, and how quickly the opponent recovers.
Each player is given 60 seconds after receiving a blow to return to action, but KO’s and TKO’s are part of the game.
While the sport may not be as violent as other MMA events, Power Slap is still a major health risk for fighters, which is why the rules are in place.

Power Slap 14 Main Card Matchups
The next big event is coming our way on Friday, July 18, with Power Slap 14 set to take place in New Orleans.

^Vernon Cathey vs Austin Turpin
Let’s start our look at the action with a Heavyweight bout that comes right before the two title fights.
Cathey usually goes to battle as a Light Heavyweight, picking up a 5-2 in his time with Power Slap. All of his wins have come via KO, so, there is real power there.
Turpin has the exact same record as his opponent, although 4 of his have come by KO. This looks like a close one, but I am leaning toward Cathey for the win.
^Robert Trujillo vs Dakota McGregor
The co-main event of the night is for the Lightweight Championship, with Trujillo coming in as the defending champion.
Trujillo is 5-1 overall and is a force to be reckoned with in this weight class, but he will have his hand full of this challenger, Dakota McGregor.
Not as experienced as the champ, McGregor is 2-1 with 2 KO, but I think he will face his match in this one.
^Damien Dibbell vs Wes Mena
The final bout of the night is for all the marbles in the Heavyweight Championship, with Dibbell coming in as the defending champ.
He is an impressive 7-1 overall, but only 3 of these wins have come via KO.
Mena is going to be a tough opponent, as he is a perfect 4-0, ending 2 of these wins by KO. This should be a good one, but I think the champ keeps his belt.
