Sure Losers for NFL Week 16

Sure Losers for NFL Week 16

Written by on December 20, 2021

Week 16 of the 2021 NFL regular season has huge games for the AFC North and the AFC East. The New England Patriots host the Buffalo Bills, and if the Pats can win they will clinch the division, but the Bills would occupy the driver’s seat with a win. The AFC North has Baltimore facing Cincinnati, with both teams sitting at 8-6. Cincinnati would grab the head-to-head tiebreaker with a win; if Cleveland can win on Monday, they would go into Week 16 also at 8-6, but the Baltimore-Cincinnati winner will be the favorite to win the division.

Let’s take a look at some NFL betting losers that we have predicted for next week.

NFL News: Sure Losers for Week 16

Cleveland Browns (+7.5) at Green Bay Packers

Cleveland heads to Green Bay for a Saturday showdown on a week that will be shortened, with the Browns having their Week 15 game moved from Saturday to Monday due to a COVID-19 outbreak. Green Bay played in Baltimore on Week 15 and blew a late 14-point lead; the Ravens turned a 31-17 deficit into a 31-30 game, opting to go for two as time wound down instead of sending the game to overtime. The Packers lucked out when the Ravens’ two-point attempt failed, but the Packers’ lack of defense down the stretch has to be worrying. I’m going to look at the Browns-Raiders matchup in Week 15 before I commit to wagering on Week 16, but I see the Browns, who need every possible win to get into the postseason, at least covering a touchdown spread at Lambeau.

Indianapolis Colts (+1.5) at Arizona Cardinals

The Cardinals had a chance to clinch a playoff spot on Sunday and got blown out…at Detroit. Perhaps the worst moment came on a Kyler Murray interception when the quarterback started gesturing at his wide receiver, berating him for running the wrong route, while the Lions’ defender was still returning the ball. Arizona coach Kliff Kingsbury was criticized for the team’s slide down the stretch last year, and while the team’s 10-2 start has them almost assured a playoff berth this time around, the Cardinals suddenly look a lot more beatable after Detroit got its second win of the season by trouncing Arizona by 18. Meanwhile, the Colts steamrolled New England despite getting a slow day from quarterback Carson Wentz, as tailback Jonathan Taylor simply ran right over a tough Patriots rushing defense.

Baltimore Ravens (+2.5) at Cincinnati Bengals

The Bengals won a key matchup with Denver this past weekend and beat the Ravens handily on the road. The Ravens are losing momentum quickly, although quarterback Lamar Jackson could return for this AFC North showdown. It’s hard to justify the Ravens as a road favorite here, though, except when you think about how so many in the betting world go with past reputation as opposed to present performance. Joe Burrow continues to lead the Cincinnati offense with confidence, finding targets down the field. Lamar Jackson missed Week 15, and Tyler Huntley struggled at times in his stead – although he did lead a fierce comeback against Green Bay. Even so, Cincinnati should win so long as they can win the ball security battle.

L.A. Chargers (-10.5) at Houston Texans

The Chargers have some frustration to work out after losing to the Kansas City Chiefs at home, and they played on Thursday, so they have a few days of extra rest over the Texans. Houston went to Jacksonville and picked up an emphatic win, but the Chargers aren’t a dumpster fire with an interim coach and a locker room full of dysfunction, like the Jaguars are.
