San Francisco 49ers 2023 NFL Must-Bet Games

San Francisco 49ers 2023 NFL Must-Bet Games

The biggest question for San Francisco 49ers – and NFL sports betting aficionados – got at least a partial answer yesterday, as quarterback Brock Purdy was cleared without restrictions to practice in training camp. His March 10 surgery to repair the ulnar collateral ligament in his throwing elbow was a success, and the six-month recovery time ended up taking just half that. According to coach Kyle Shanahan, the team will have Purdy work two days and then take a day off as he works to build strength in that right elbow. This means that Trey Lance heads to the bench after having entered 2022 as the starter. Purdy led the team on an electric run after taking over the offense – he had entered the 2022 season as the third-string quarterback – that only ended with that UCL injury against Philadelphia in the NFC Championship. Looking to 2023, we have the point spreads for each regular-season contest as well as a few key matchups that should draw your NFL wagering interest.

NFL Top Betting Games during the 2023 Season

Week 4: vs Arizona Cardinals (-9.5)

Kyler Murray continues to rehab the right ACL that he tore against New England last December. He will start training camp on the PUP (physically unable to perform) list, and neither Murray nor the team has provided a potential date for Murray to return to practice or to enter game play. Now that Murray is entering his fifth NFL season, recovering from the first major injury of his career, he has a new perspective after going through the turmoil of his own contract extension (and the short-lived requirement that he review film for a st number of hours per week), and hopefully this means that he has earned the respect of the locker room. Either way, the Cardinals are in rebuilding mode. Coach Kliff Kingsbury is gone, replaced by Jonathan Gannon from the Philadelphia Eagles. DeAndre Hopkins is no longer running routes for the Cardinals, and J.J. Watt retired. The future might be bright for the Cardinals, but the present is a fairly ugly rebuild. San Francisco to win and cover.

Week 5: vs Dallas Cowboys (-2.5)

This is a rematch of last year’s divisional playoff round, which ended ignominiously for the Cowboys as Dak Prescott frittered away the last seconds of regulation after scrambling to pick up a few yards instead of throwing the ball away to stop the clock. Prescott’s difficulties with turnovers (he led the NFL in interceptions last year despite missing four games) and issues with late-game clock management didn’t do the Cowboys many favors in 2022, and it will be interesting to see how he has advanced in ball security and clock management this time around. The 49ers’ defense will provide another tough test. San Francisco to win and cover.

Week 6: at Cleveland Browns (-1)

The Browns still have a stout running game led by Nick Chubb, and they have one of the most talented quarterbacks in the league in Deshaun Watson. Watson didn’t really live up to his reputation in 2022, but he had a lot of rust to shake off after that lengthy suspension that started when he was still in Houston. I’m not sure that Watson can lead the Browns through the tough 49er defense, and while this should be a low-scoring affair on both sides, thanks to the Browns’ stout defense, this line could tilt the 49ers’ way by another point or two. San Francisco to win and cover.

Week 10: at Jacksonville Jaguars (-1)

This is a dangerous Eastern time zone road trip to face a Jaguars team that has started to realize Trevor Lawrence’s potential. His high ceiling emerged last year as the Jaguars won the AFC South title and pushed the Kansas City Chiefs hard in the divisional round of the playoffs. Lawrence has learned to stand in the pocket and find his receivers, and he has the offensive line to give himself time. Jacksonville to cover.
