Must-Bet Games & Picks in NFL Week 2

With each passing day, it seems like more and more NFL news is coming down the pike that will influence betting outcomes. Ezekiel Elliott looks like he’s headed to a suspension for a sexual assault accusation — and then he punches a bouncer and appeals a conviction for driving down a Dallas freeway at more than 100 mph.

Le’Veon Bell didn’t reach an agreement on a long-term deal in Steel City, so there could be that acrimony going into the season. Kirk Cousins is going to play yet another season on the franchise tag in Washington as the Redskins couldn’t get a long-term deal done. The team president, Bruce Allen, didn’t even seem to know his quarterback’s name, calling him “Kurt” five different times at the press conference. So there’s plenty of drama stirring in the locker rooms all over the NFL. As you look toward futures NFL betting, take a look at our thoughts about this coming season’s Week 2 matchups.

Must-Bet Games & Picks in NFL Week 2

Houston Texans at Cincinnati Bengals

When: Thursday, Sept. 14, 8:25 PM ET Where: Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati TV: NFL Network Radio: KILT 610AM (Houston) / SPN 1530 (Cincinnati) Stream OptionNFL Live NFL Week 2 Odds: Bengals -3 Cincinnati is going to be a dumpster fire this year. They started down that road last year, and that arrogant defense is just going to be a year older and slower this year. Andy Dalton may have peaked two seasons ago, before breaking his finger in Week 17, so I think we can start expecting the Bengals to get on the rebuild path sooner than later. However, they face a Houston team that, despite a solid defense, will have either Tom Savage or rookie Deshaun Watson at quarterback. I see the Bengals forcing enough mistakes out of that Texans offense to eke out a close win at home, and cover that line.

Tennessee Titans at Jacksonville Jaguars

When: Sunday, September 17, 1:00 PM ET Where: EverBank Field, Jacksonville, Florida TV: NFL Network Radio: FM 104.5 (Tennessee) / 1010 XL 92.5 FM (Jacksonville) Stream Option: NFL Live NFL Week 2 Odds: Titans -1 Jacksonville and Tennessee both have young, talented quarterbacks in Blake Bortles and Marcus Mariota. However, the Titans have the better running back (DeMarco Murray) and the better offensive line. Both defenses tend to struggle a bit, but I see the Titans getting the upper hand as Murray wears down the Jaguars in the second half. I also see Bortles struggling more with ball security than Mariota, so give me the Titans on the road in this one.

Chicago Bears at Tampa Bay Rays

When: Sunday, September 17, 1:00 PM Where: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, Florida TV: NFL Network Radio: 105.9FM (Chicago) / WDAE 620 AM (Tampa Bay) Stream Option: NFL Live NFL Week 2 Odds: Buccaneers -7 Will it be big-contract Mike Glennon or rookie Mitch Trubisky at the helm for Da Bears? At this point in the season, barring injury, Glennon should still have the helm of the offense. However, can the team that made the 46 defense famous go back to those roots and lock down a Buccaneer team that should have crazy speed on offense this year? It won’t surprise me at all to see Jameis Winston and DeSean Jackson torch that Chicago secondary a few times, and for the Buccaneers to pick up a huge win at home. Are the Bears a safe NFL Week 2 betting pick?

N.Y. Jets at Oakland Raiders

When: Sunday, September 17, 4:05 PM Where: O.co Coliseum, Oakland, California TV: NFL Network Radio: ESPN New York 98.7 FM (NY) / 95.7 The GAME KGMZ-FM (Oakland) Stream Option: NFL Live NFL Week 2 Odds: Raiders -8.5 Khalil Mack returns to key an Oakland pass rush that was a huge reason in the team’s 12-4 mark last year. Who will the Jets roll out at quarterback? Josh McCown? Christian Hackenberg? Bryce Petty? Fans might be already calling for Joe Namath to come out of retirement by halftime of Week 2, given how little the Jets have done to improve their roster. The Jets, who had the best secondary on paper going into last season, saw that paper get torched week after week in 2016, and Derek Carr and Amare Cooper — now with Marshawn Lynch as a legitimate rushing option in the backfield — look like an elite offense. Give me the Raiders to win and cover.

Dallas Cowboys at Denver Broncos

When: Sunday, September 17, 4:25 PM Where: Sports Authority Field, Denver, Colorado TV: NFL Network Radio: 105.3 The Fan (Dallas) / 94.1 FM (Denver) Stream Option: NFL Live NFL Week 2 Odds: Dallas (PK) Well, we don’t know how long Ezekiel Elliott’s suspension will last, but it will probably be at least two games, so don’t count on him. Instead, look for Darren McFadden to carry the ball for Dallas — still not a bad option behind that offensive line. The Broncos still have a deadly pass rush, led by Von Miller, but Dak Prescott showed a lot of cool under fire last year. If the Dallas receivers can get open, the Cowboys should be all right on offense. On the defensive side, the Cowboys let five starters go to free agency and didn’t do much to replace them, but the Broncos will either have Trevor Siemian or Paxton Lynch at quarterback — not world-beaters. I like Dallas to come in and manage their way to a road win.
