Houston at Seattle NFL Week 8 Odds & Betting Prediction

Written by on October 26, 2017

The Houston Texans sit at 3-3 as they come out of their bye week and head north to take on the Seattle Seahawks, who have an early lead in the NFC West, bringing a 4-2 record into the contest. Seattle came out of their bye week last Sunday and knocked off the Seattle Seahawks. Houston has looked terrific on offense since the decision by coach Bill O’Brien to start rookie Deshaun Watson at quarterback, and if that decision had come sooner (and if the Texans had had a little more luck against New England), those Texans might well be 5-1 now. The Seahawks have looked muddled at time but generally play much better at home than on the road. As you consider your NFL Week 8 odds  for this weekend, take a look at our preview of this exciting matchup.

Why should you bet on the Texans?

Houston has put up at least 33 points in each of their last four games, and that’s without star left tackle Duane Brown, who has been holding out up to this point in the season. He came to practice on Monday, finally, and the decision to play him on Sunday is still up in the air. For Watson, so far, the key has been ball security, as he has 12 touchdown passes against just a pair of interceptions in the last three games. He has also wowed fans with his feet, not just with his ability to avoid the sack but with his propensity to break off big runs down the field. The Texans’ defense is not quite as solid as it has been in years past. The pair of J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney only made it until October 8, when Watt suffered a tibial plateau fracture in his left leg against Kansas City that brought his season to an end. Clowney is a defensive star in his own right, but now it is easier for opposing offensive lines to double-team him in their blocking assignments. If you like the Texans, then you think that the Texans can move the ball against the Legion of Boom — and that their defense will be able to stifle Russell Wilson and Thomas Rawls, and that the raucous 12th Man crowd won’t get into the Texans’ heads.

Why should you put your money on the Seahawks?

The Seattle defense has recovered from that three-game funk to start the season, which included permitting 33 points against the Tennessee Titans. After that 24-7 win over the Giants, though, Seattle now has moved into a tie with Jacksonville for fewest points permitted, at 15.7 points per game. The Giants were only able to run the ball for 46 yards in that game — and they only gained 177 total yards. Are the Seahawks a safe bet in Week 8? The offense has started to perk up as well. Thomas Rawls has settled into the Seahawks’ running game, and Doug Baldwin (despite getting into an altercation with an assistant coach on the sideline last week) is producing with his receptions down the field. Russell Wilson remains one of the most talented quarterbacks in the NFC, despite the fact that he’s not getting as much press as some of his other peers in the conference. If you like Seattle, you see the Legion of Boom teaching Deshaun Watson a few lessons over the course of the day, and the Seahawks turning Houston miscues into points.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I’m a big fan of what Houston has going on this year — and if they can go to Seattle and get a win, that would be huge for their playoff hopes and for their confidence. I don’t see them keeping up with Seattle on the road, though. I predict a final score of Seattle 27, Houston 17.
