Bengals vs Steelers 2019 NFL Week 4 Odds & Game Prediction

Written by on September 27, 2019

The Bengals vs Steelers will meet for the 100th time on Monday Night Football. The Steelers have dominated the series, winning 64 of the first 99 meetings (including both postseason meetings), as well as the last eight in a row. One of the most infamous meetings came during a 2015 wild card playoff game in Cincinnati, in which the Bengals came back from a 15-0 deficit to lead by one, only to see linebacker Vontaze Burfict level Antonio Brown on an incompletion, on a play where Ben Roethlisberger’s shoulder was hurt so badly that he could barely throw the ball 15 yards downfield. Burfict’s hit led to a 15-yard penalty; cornerback Adam Jones threw a fit and got another 15-yard penalty, and the Steelers kicked a field goal to complete a most unlikely win. Now the Bengals have a new coach in Zac Taylor, but so far Cincinnati is 0-3 under the new regime. Can Cincinnati pull off the win against a Steelers team playing Mason Rudolph at quarterback? Or will Pittsburgh extend the streak? Don’t miss our NFL betting preview for this AFC North classic.

Why should you bet on the Bengals?

Cincinnati has played two solid games and one stinker, with the stinker curiously coming at home. They played the Seahawks tough on the road, losing by one, and then they came home and got shellacked by San Francisco, 41-17. Then they went to Buffalo and had a late lead, but Buffalo came back to score the winning touchdown. Andy Dalton threw for 249 yards and a touchdown, running for another score, but he also had two interceptions, including a backbreaker on a late drive. Joe Mixon ran for 61 yards. Oddly, Week 4 has been good to the Bengals in recent years, as they have covered in each of the last four seasons. They have also covered in six straight road games — and in five straight against the AFC. In their last nine division games, they have covered seven times. The fact that the Bengals’ offense has yet to crack 20 points this year is a problem, as NFL teams generally need to get to at least 20 or 25 points to remain competitive. If you like Cincinnati, you see their defense testing Rudolph and grinding out the win.

Why should you put your money on the Steelers?

Pittsburgh is also 0-3 on the season. They took a beating in prime time in Week 1, losing by 30 to the New England Patriots up at Gillette. They lost by two to the Seahawks and by four to San Francisco. In the Week 3 loss to the 49ers, Rudolph threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns, along with an interception. His top receiver was JuJu Smith-Schuster, who caught three balls for 81 yards and that score. James Conner struggled running the ball, picking up just 43 yards. As we said, Pittsburgh has beaten Cincinnati eight straight times. On Monday night, they have been solid for sports bettors, covering in four of their last five appearances. However, they have only covered four times in their last 14 games at Heinz Field. With that said, their system offers a lot less chaos than what is going on in Cincinnati right now, and few veteran NFL starting quarterbacks have more of a penchant for throwing that key late interception than Andy Dalton. If you like the Steelers, you see their system pulling out a win as Cincinnati falls apart late…once again.

Final Score Prediction

I like a lot of what Mason Rudolph brings to the Steelers; if the rest of the offense can deliver, the defense looks improved from last year. I see the Steelers playing well on their home field and winning, 24-16.
