College Football Odds: Top 5 To Bet on the Next 2023/24 Season

College Football Odds: Top 5 To Bet on the Next 2023/24 Season

Since 2006, the list of teams with college football national championships has just eight teams in it: Florida, LSU, Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Ohio State, Clemson and Georgia. Florida, LSU, and Georgia have two wins apiece. Florida State, Auburn and Ohio State have one each. Alabama has six. That’s not a lot of parity in the sport, especially with five of those teams coming from the SEC. Last year, Michigan joined the College Football Playoff party but rolled over for a TCU team that would lose in the championship game by 58 points. Let’s look at last year’s semifinalists, and add Alabama to the mix. Can any of them win the title this year? Read this before you lock in any College Football betting on the 2024 national title.

Georgia

enters the year as the favorite to win it all, but in the storied history of college football, no team has ever pulled off the threepeat in the AP era, which started in 1936. The Bulldogs have more national championships (2) than losses (1) over the last two seasons after posting that 15-0 record last year. The Bulldogs could do it, as they will reload on talent and have a regular-season schedule that only gets really tough with a game at Tennessee, although that yearly game in Jacksonville against Florida is always a challenge. The Georgia non-conference schedule is much easier than last year’s, consisting of Tennessee-Martin, Ball State, UAB and Georgia Tech. But can the Bulldogs win the SEC Championship and then two more playoff games, with Carson Beck running the offense?

TCU

was listed with opening odds of +6000 to win the 2024 national championship. There were a lot of factors that landed TCU in the national championship game. They made it unbeaten through regular-season Big 12 play, thanks to several matchups against backup quarterbacks. Max Duggan, the TCU quarterback, did play well, leading his team back in the second half multiple times. Reality caught up with TCU in the Big 12 Championship, where they lost to a Kansas State team that was playing a backup quarterback, but the College Football Playoff committee put TCU in the national semifinals anyway. A series of boneheaded errors by Michigan helped TCU advance to the national championship, but the Bulldogs absolutely shut the Horned Frogs down, 65-7. Duggan has left for the NFL, and the series of events that got TCU to a national title game is extremely unlikely to occur again.

Ohio State

came within a whisker of stopping Georgia in the CFP semifinals last year. They had built up a lead before Georgia came back, but then Ohio State had a shot at a 50-yard field goal with eight seconds left for the win. Noah Ruggles yanked the kick way left, though, and quarterback C.J. Stroud has moved on to the NFL. Can the Buckeyes reload at quarterback again? We will see. Kyle McCord looked good in the spring game, but we won’t know the starter until preseason camp. The offensive line needs some improvement, though, before this is an elite team.

Michigan

got a lot of help from the transfer portal on the offensive line, including LaDarius Henderson from Arizona State and a pair from Stanford. Josaiah Stewart had five tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack in the spring game after transferring from Coastal Carolina. Linebacker Ernest Hausmann transferred from Nebraska and had eight tackles and a forced fumble. So the defense looks like it’s in good hands – can the offense produce?

Alabama

is still deciding between Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson at quarterback, although Tyler Buchner transferred in from Notre Dame and might take the job. The defense has a new coordinator in Kevin Steele and the top safety in the 2023 ESPN 300 in Caleb Downs. Alabama is always able to reload, so as long as they get consistency out of the quarterback position, you have to like them in the SEC West.
