College Football Betting: Top Games in Week 2

College Football Odds: Must-Bet Games in Week 2

The opening week of the 2023 college football season brought all sorts of surprises. Cal and SMU celebrated their invitations to the Atlantic Coast Conference for the 2024 season by routing their Week 1 opponents, respectively North Texas and Cal. UT-San Antonio went on the road and upset a Baylor team that may still have designs on the last Big 12 title before the conference adds five of the former Pac-12 teams and loses Oklahoma and Texas to the SEC. Florida State turned a tight game against LSU into a laugher by scoring 31 unanswered points in the second half. Deion Sanders took his Colorado Buffaloes, boasting 86 new players from a year ago and just ten returning players from last year’s 1-11 squad, and beat TCU, 45-42, despite entering as 20 ½-point underdogs (and despite ESPN’s Ryan Prendergast predicting a 40-point margin of victory for the Horned Frogs). How should you spend your college football betting money this week? We have several NCAAF primo picks for you to consider.

College Football Betting | SMU at Oklahoma

NCAAF Lines: SMU (+16.5) at Oklahoma
When: Sunday, September 9, 2023, 6:00pm ET
Where: Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK
TV/Live Stream: ESPN+

This line opened at Oklahoma -14 and has steadily grown since. The Sooners rolled over Arkansas State at home in their opener, 73-0. They originally had Georgia scheduled for Week 2, but the SEC ordered Oklahoma and Georgia to cancel their series since they will be conference foes next week, and SMU took the opening. Quarterback Dillon Gabriel only played the first half for Oklahoma against Arkansas State, and he looked terrific, as the former UCF standout went 19 of 22 for 308 yards and a pair of touchdowns before giving way to backup Jackson Arnold. Arnold, a freshman, completed all 11 of his passes for 114 yards and a score and also ran for a touchdown. Davis Beville and General Booty also had time at quarterback for the Sooners, who totaled 642 yards of offense.

SMU also had an impressive opener, rolling over Louisiana Tech at home, 38-14. Prestone Stone went 23 of 37 for 248 yards and three touchdowns. Tailback L.J. Johnson Jr rumbled for 128 yards and a score, including a 67-yard dash. Jaylan Knighton ran for 64 yards. With this game away from Ford Stadium, though, it will be interesting to see how much better SMU’s defense fares against a solid Oklahoma attack than Arkansas State’s did. SMU had some impressive short-yardage stops against Louisiana Tech, but can they keep within striking distance of the Sooners? SMU to cover.

College Football Betting | Cincinnati Bearcats at Pitt Panthers

NCAAF Lines: Cincinnati Bearcats (+8) at Pitt Panthers
When: Sunday, September 9, 2023, 6:30pm ET
Where: Memorial Stadium, Norman, OK
TV/Live Stream: CW Network

This line opened at Pitt -3 ½ and has grown since. Pitt won in Week 1, 45-7, over FCS opponent Wofford. Cincinnati comes in facing the largest spread since they took on Alabama a couple of years ago in the College Football Playoff, losing as 13-point dogs. Phil Jurkovec went 17 of 23 for 214 yars and a touchdown; he also ran for 41 yards, including a 23-yard score. Rodney Hammond Jr ran for two scores, and Daniel Carter added a touchdown on the ground. The Pitt defense kept Wofford penned up on their own side of the field until the fourth quarter. Pitt and Cincinnati used to be rivals from the Big East, and Cincinnati’s new head coach, Scott Satterfield, knows them from his time at Louisville, where he went 1-1 against Pitt in ACC play.

Cincinnati got six touchdowns out of quarterback Emory Jones in the first half en route to a 66-10 shellacking of the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky. The Bearcats’ offense rolled up 667 total yards, and Jones went 19 of 23 for 345 yards, with five touchdown passes on the day to five different receivers by the time the final gun went off. He also ran for two more scores to set a school record for most total touchdowns in a game by a quarterback (7). Tailback Corey Kiner carried the ball 13 times for 105 yards, and backup quarterbcak Brady Lichtenberg posted the first two touchdowns of his aceer. On defense, the Bearcats notched a pair of interceptions. Cincinnati to cover.
