College Football Betting Guide for Week 11

College Football Betting Guide for Week 11

The Louisville Cardinals enter the 2023 college football season with a lot of hype. Jeff Brohm returns to Louisville from Purdue to take over his alma mater’s program, and the roster is stocked with talent. The last time there was this much excitement ahead of a Lousiville football season, Lamar Jackson was headed into his junior year in 2017. Brohm guided Purdue to the Big Ten Championship last year, and hopes are high that Louisville can make a similar climb in the ACC. Let’s look at Louisville’s Week 11 midweek matchup between the Cardinals and the Virginia Cavaliers, along with some other solid college football betting choices.

Virginia Cavaliers at Louisville Cardinals

When: Thursday, November 9 at 7:30 pm ET
Where: Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium, Louisville, KY
TV / Streaming: ESPN

This is one of the tougher ACC games for Louisville, as the Cardinals don’t have to play Florida State, Clemson or North Carolina. Brohm has brought 20 transfers through the portal, upgrading the team’s secondary, offensive line and wide receiving group. Jack Plummer has transferred in from Cal to take over the quarterback position. Plummer had spent three seasons with Brohm at Purdue, starting 14 games. Edge rusher Stephen Herron has also transferred to Louisville from Stanford.

Virginia is just looking to tread water after a difficult 2022. The talent cupboard is bare, as quarterback Brennan Armstrong has left, along with three top receivers and four starters on the O-line. Anthony Colandrea, an early enrollee, is the future quarterback for now. On defense, the Cavaliers have six starters returning, but shutdown cornerback Fentrell Cypress II and linebacker Nick Jackson left via the transfer portal. The defense ranked third in the ACC in yards permitted per play, and sticking with that scheme should be effective, if the offense can keep the ball long enough not to wear the defense out. Traveling on a short week is hard enough on NFL players, though, so the Cavaliers have a huge task ahead of them in this one. Cardinals to win and cover.

Florida Gators at LSU Tigers

When: Saturday, November 11 at TBA
Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA
TV / Streaming: TBA

Many LSU fans thought that the hiring of Brian Kelly from Notre Dame was a mistake after Week 1 last year as the Tigers lost to a less-than-overwhelming Florida State team. As the year went on, though, we learned that Florida State was better than many thought (as they finished 10-3) and the Tigers won the SEC West, including an overtime win over Alabama at home. Starting quarterback Jayden Daniels returns, as does top wideout Malik Nabers. Harold Perkins, possibly the SEC’s best defensive player, is also back.

Florida started 2022 with a home win over Utah, but after that, they lost by 10 to Kentucky at home, and what had begun as a promising season turned into a disappointment. Florida State beat the Gators 45-38, and Oregon State humbled Florida, 30-3, in the Las Vegas Bowl. Quarterback Anthony Richardson is now an Indianapolis Colt. Can the Gators even make a bowl game this season? Tigers to win and cover.

Michigan Wolverines at Penn State Nittany Lions

When: Saturday, November 11 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, LA
TV / Streaming: FOX

The last time we saw Michigan, the Wolverines had made it to a College Football Playoff, only to make mistake after mistake and hand a national championship berth to a TCU team that couldn’t even win the Big 12 and ended up losing to Georgia in the CFP title game in historic fashion. J.J. McCarthy is back at quarterback, and tailbacks Donovan Edwards and Blake Corum have both returned. Michigan looks to make it three straight Big Ten titles after adding pass rusher Josaiah Stewart, linebacker Ernest Hausmann and a pair of offensive linemen from Stanford through the transfer portal.

Penn State’s defense could be the best in the Big Ten, with all-Big Ten players at each of the three levels. Quarterback Drew Allar came to Penn State as a five-star prospect, and Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton form one of the top tailback tandems in the nation. Dante Cephas has transferred in as a wide receiver, and he will join KeAndre Lambert-Smith running routes down the field. Can the Nittany Lions win a tough game against an elite conference opponent? Michigan to cover.
