Georgia’s case for the College Football Playoff is secure, win or lose, while the Tide have to win to advance to a national semifinal. Only one team ahead of them in the CFP rankings lost last weekend, and that was Ohio State, falling by just three points to Michigan. There were questions about Georgia coming into 2023, starting at the quarterback position. Stetson Bennett IV led the Bulldogs to back-to-back national championships before leaving for the NFL, leaving Carson Beck to lead the offense. The Georgia attack sputtered a bit in the first third of the regular season, but down the stretch, the offense has taken off, scoring 30 or more points in seven straight games. Beck has thrown for more than 250 yards in six of those wins. The exception came on Saturday, when he only threw for 175 yards, but that was because the running game made moving the ball so easy.

Kendall Milton keyed the running attack against Georgia Tech, picking up 156 of the team’s 262 rushing yards. That should give the O-line confidence with the showdown coming against Alabama. As we saw against Auburn, Alabama will give up big plays, both in the rushing and the passing game, as this is not the same dominant Tide defense we saw in the 2010s. Georgia’s offense is better than its defense, which will make it more capable of matching the Tide if Alabama gets some big plays.
