2019 College Football Week 4 Odds, Overview and Picks

Written by on September 17, 2019

The third week of the 2019 college football season brought a number of surprises. Kentucky lost to Florida for the second time in three seasons, but the Wildcats would have a three-game winning streak over the Gators if their kickers could make relatively short field goals with the game on the line. Michigan State also had trouble in the kicking game, missing a short field goal that would have sent their game with Arizona State to overtime. Instead, the Sun Devils have now beaten the Spartans in each of the last two seasons. Southern Methodist routed Texas State to move to 3-0 on the season, the first time the Mustangs have started with three straight wins since 1984. They face TCU in Week 4 in the annual battle for the Iron Skillet. As you consider your College Football Week 4 odds, check out our top picks.

2019 College Football Week 4 Odds, Overview & Picks

Saturday, September 21

Tennessee (+15) at Florida (12:00pm ET)

At first glance, you might think that this line is way off, given that the Florida Gators lost quarterback Feleipe Franks for the season this past weekend. However, all backup Kyle Trask did was come off the bench to lead a comeback against Kentucky. When Trask came into the game, Kentucky was up 21-10, but Trask led the Gators to victory. On the night, Trask went 9 for 13 for 126 yards. Tennessee opened the 2019 campaign with losses to Georgia State (who had never beaten a Power 5 team in school history until that opener) and BYU (who also finished off USC this past weekend. They finally picked up a win in Week 3, rolling over Chattanooga, 45-0 at home. Can Florida beat Tennessee at home by 15 points with a backup quarterback? Florida does have the better record against tougher competition this year, having opened the season with a four-point win over Miami (FL) in Week Zero. I see Tennessee falling at Florida, but this is a rivalry game — and the Gators are starting Trask. College Football Week 4 Pick: Florida 27, Tennessee 17

Michigan (-6) at Wisconsin (12:00pm ET)

Both of these teams are in the top 15 in the nation, but they needed overtime to beat Army and had a hard time against Middle Tennessee State University. Wisconsin has not played tough competition either, with wins over South Florida and Central Michigan, but they have won those matchups by a combined 110-0 score. Michigan has beaten Wisconsin twice in their three matchups with Jim Harbaugh at head coach, however, Wisconsin won the last matchup at Camp Randall Stadium, rolling to a 24-10 win. The Badgers have an ironclad defense, and while the Wolverines, at least on paper, should have an offense that moves the ball smoothly with Shea Patterson, they have had a hard time finding their rhythm here. I like the Badgers grinding out a win and cover. College Football Week 4 Pick: Wisconsin 27, Michigan 16.

Auburn (+3.5) at Texas A&M (3:30pm ET)

Auburn and Texas A&M have met nine times, with the Aggies winning five of them, but with Auburm winning the last two, and three of the last four — including the last two in College Station, which is a notoriously difficult place to go in and win. Auburn won at home last year, 28-24, and in College Station in 2017, 42-27. Behind freshman quarterback Bo Nix, Auburn mounted a furious comeback to beat Oregon in the opener. They struggled early but then put away Tulane, 24-6, and then they routed Kent State, 55-16, this past weekend. Texas A&M routed Texas State in their opener, 41-7, and then played Clemson tough on the road before falling, 24-10. They returned home to wallop Lamar, 62-3, in Week 3, and now they open SEC play at home against Auburn. Kellen Mond has looked solid on offense leading the Aggies, and the real question is how Auburn’s freshman quarterback will handle play against Jimbo Fisher’s defense — and the noise of the Aggie crowd on the road. College Football Week 4 Pick: Texas A&M 20, Auburn 16
