Why should you bet on Oregon?
Oregon had suffered a pair of disappointing losses, falling to Stanford and Oregon State, both on the road, and they looked like they were in real trouble as far as remaining at the top of the Pac-12 standings. Then they came home to beat Colorado and Utah at home, keeping pace with the Buffaloes. They ride this two-game winning streak into their game against Arizona State.
In their win over Utah, Payton Pritchard put up 25 points, knocking down five three-pointers in the first half. Will Richardson had three shots from distance of his own in the first half and scored 18 points while also dishing out six assists and grabbing six rebounds. Shakur Juiston chipped in 11 points, and Addison Patterson came off the bench to score 10 points. For the game, Oregon shot 58 percent from the floor, going 12 for 24 from downtown. Their inside-out ball movement left their shooters open, and the shooters did not disappoint. If they can shoot this well on the road, the Sun Devils will have some problems.
Why should you put your money on Arizona State?
The Sun Devils have made their run through some of the lower teams in this year’s Pac-12 standings, as their five-game winning streak includes wins over Washington, UCLA, USC, Stanford and Cal. Even so, you have to take care of business against teams that are not quite as successful, and Arizona State has done that over the past couple of weeks.
In their victory over Cal on Sunday, Remy Martin had 22 points, including 15 in the last 11 minutes of the game, adding to his resume for Pac-12 Player of the Year. In the team’s last twelve games, Martin has scored 20 or more points on nine different occasions, and he leads the Pac-12 in scoring. His three-pointer with two minutes left staked the Sun Devils to an eight-point lead that effectively put the game out of reach. Cal was able to sneak within three points with 14 seconds left, but Alonzo Verge Jr knocked down a pair of free throws to lock down the victory. That gave him seven free throws in the last 54 seconds of regulation and 22 points overall for the game. Romello White impressed with 10 points and 10 rebounds. The last time ASU won five straight conference games came in 2008-09, when James Harden was running the floor for the Sun Devils.

Oregon is a perfect 14-0 on the season at home — and just 6-6 on the road. Arizona State’s gym has a raucous crowd, and the Sun Devils are on a roll right now. While both teams should put up plenty of offense, I see Arizona State pulling away late and winning, 82-78.
