Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – April 8th Edition

Written by on April 8, 2019

The 2018-19 regular season in the National Basketball Association has entered its final week, with most teams facing just a game or two before the campaign winds down. There is still a little bit of intrigue in the postseason matchups that the last couple of days will sort out. Boston is just a game ahead of Indiana in the East standings, and Brooklyn and Orlando are tied for sixth in the East. Detroit is just a game ahead of Charlotte and Miami in the eighth spot in the East. In the Western Conference, Golden State has locked up the top seed, and Denver could fall to third as the Rockets are just a half-game behind them. Oklahoma City is in sixth — but they are just a half-game ahead of San Antonio and the Clippers. So we see there is a little work to be done before we know our postseason pairings. Take a look at our top NBA betting picks from the Association for the coming week.

Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – April 8th Edition

Tuesday, April 9

Boston at Washington (7:00pm ET, TNT)

Boston followed up an impressive win in Indiana with a surprising home loss to Orlando, falling to the Magic, 116-108, on Sunday. The win gave Orlando a postseason berth for the first time in seven seasons, so perhaps they had a bit more to play for, but now Boston needs to enter the postseason with some consistency. Kyrie Irving put up 23 points, and Al Horford added 18. Gordon Hayward showed some encouraging signs with his 16 points off the bench. Even so, Orlando trailed by 13 at halftime but led by five going into the fourth quarter, and even though Boston would tie it at 106, they could not finish the comeback. Now the Celtics head down to Washington to take on a Wizards team that has nothing to play for. The Wizards have followed up a nice win in Denver with three straight losses, falling to Chicago, San Antonio and New York. That loss to the Knicks came on Sunday, the first time that New York had beaten Washington at home in their last ten tries. The Wizards led by ten going into the fourth quarter, but the Knicks came back to earn just their 16th win of the season. Jeff Green led the Wizards with 19 points, and Thomas Bryant added 17. Bradley Beal had just 13 on the night, going just 5 for 17. Washington can avoid a 50-loss season if they handle Boston on Tuesday night, so the question is really which Celtics team will show up in the nation’s capital. NBA Betting Prediction: Boston 108, Washington 101

Phoenix at Dallas (8:30pm ET)

The Dallas Mavericks have a lot to be excited about in the future, as rookie Luka Doncic looks to be the real deal at the guard position, and the team’s trade for Kristaps Porzingis should give the franchise two cornerstone players going ahead. Tuesday night’s game, though, will be a look back to the past, as the great Dirk Nowitzki will likely play in his last home game for the Mavericks. Dallas has split their last four, beating Philadelphia at home by 20 before losing to Minnesota and Memphis. They split a home-and-home with Memphis by winning on the road, 129-127, in overtime on Sunday. In that game, Salah Mejri put the team on his back in the last minutes of regulation, scoring the last basket and then adding the first seven points in overtime, putting up a career best 19 for the game. He also had nine boards and four blocks. Trey Burke led Dallas with 24 points, including 14 in the fourth quarter and overtime. Jalen Brunson added 12 points and 10 assists, a career best, to get his second double-double of the season. Now the Mavericks welcome the Suns, who have split their last four. However, their last outing saw them permit 149 points to the Houston Rockets, who set an NBA record with 27 three-point shots in the game. Eric Gordon made eight, James Harden had five, P.J. Tucker added four, and Danuel House chipped in three. The game was never really in doubt, as Houston led by 10 points after one quarter and 30 points at halftime, going into the locker room up 77-47. Jamal Crawford put up 27 points off the bench, but Devin Booker and Kelly Oubre Jr. missed the game with injuries and will not return against Dallas. NBA Betting Prediction: Dallas 114, Phoenix 108
