A Look at the 2019 MLB Division Odds Favorites

American League East

Boston Red Sox

  • Odds to win the World Series: +700
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +350
  • Odds to win the division: +120
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes -600 / No +425
  • Over/Under win total: 93.5
The Sox won 108 games last year — and they didn’t get a full season out of Chris Sale, Nathan Eovaldi or Eduardo Rodriguez. What can they do this year?

New York Yankees

  • Odds to win the World Series: +500
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +225
  • Odds to win the division: -125
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes -700, No +500
  • Over/Under win total: 97
The Yankees also cracked 100 wins last year but ended up in the wild card game. Can they get past the Sox this year?

Tampa Bay Rays

  • Odds to win the World Series: +2500
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +1200
  • Odds to win the division: +1000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +240 / No -300
  • Over/Under win total: 84.5
The perpetual rebuild in Tampa Bay seems to be paying off. But can they get past the two titans in the East?

Toronto Blue Jays

  • Odds to win the World Series: +30000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +15000
  • Odds to win the division: +6000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +1000 / No -2000
  • Over/Under win total: 74
It’s rebuilding time in Canada, and with two favorites and a dark horse, the Blue Jays are almost a lock for fourth, just ahead of the…

Baltimore Orioles

  • Odds to win the World Series: +200000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +100000
  • Odds to win the division: +30000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +4000 / No -20000
  • Over/Under win total: 57.5
There are people betting on the Orioles to win the World Series because of the sheer magnitude of those odds. Don’t throw your money away like those people.

American League Central

Cleveland Indians

  • Odds to win the World Series: +1000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +500
  • Odds to win the division: -400
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes -750 / No +525
  • Over/Under win total: 91
The Tribe are on the wane, and their offense last year was a major problem. They didn’t make many major additions, so while they might win a soft Central, that will be as far as they go.

Minnesota Twins

  • Odds to win the World Series: +2500
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +1200
  • Odds to win the division: +300
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +210 / No -260
  • Over/Under win total: 84
The Twins have the best offense in the division, but their pitching staff is a little behind Cleveland’s, at least on paper. But can the Twins sneak into a title?

Detroit Tigers

  • Odds to win the World Series: +100000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +50000
  • Odds to win the division: +6000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +2000 / No -10000
  • Over/Under win total: 69
The Tigers are also rebuilding this year, which means another season in the basement of the division.

Chicago White Sox

  • Odds to win the World Series: +20000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +10000
  • Odds to win the division: +2500
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +800 / No -1400
  • Over/Under win total: 73.5
The White Sox pushed hard in free agency but came away largely empty.

Kansas City Royals

  • Odds to win the World Series: +100000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +50000
  • Odds to win the division: +6000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +2000 / No -10000
  • Over/Under win total: 70.5
The race to the bottom of the division between the Royals and Tigers might be tighter than the race to the top.

American League West

Houston Astros

  • Odds to win the World Series: +600
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +275
  • Odds to win the division: -800
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes -1400 / No +800
  • Over/Under win total: 96.5
The Astros get to play the Mariners, Angels, Rangers and A’s in divisional play. They’ll be stacking up all kinds of wins — even if the A’s pull off another terrific season. They have the rotation, bullpen and bats to play deep into October, and perhaps go all the way.

Oakland A’s

  • Odds to win the World Series: +4000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +2000
  • Odds to win the division: +800
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +240 / No -300
  • Over/Under win total: 81.5
As long as Moneyball is at work in Oakland, the A’s will continue to win a lot more than they should on paper. They won’t translate that to a division title, but they could snag a wild card again.

Seattle Mariners

  • Odds to win the World Series: +10000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +5000
  • Odds to win the division: +4000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +2000 / No -10000
  • Over/Under win total: 73.5
When will the Mariners stop underperforming? I don’t see it coming this year.

Los Angeles Angels

  • Odds to win the World Series: +4000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +2000
  • Odds to win the division: +1200
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +300 / No -400
  • Over/Under win total: 82
Mike Trout? Check. Shohei Otani? Check. Underperform again? Check.

Texas Rangers

  • Odds to win the World Series: +100000
  • Odds to win the AL Pennant: +50000
  • Odds to win the division: +8000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +1000 / No -2000
  • Over/Under win total: 71
Mike Minor is the Rangers’ Opening Day starter after Jason Hammel, who had been named to get the start, retired instead. Minor pitched well last year, but the castoffs who populate much of the rotation show us that Texas isn’t interested in contending in 2019.

National League East

Atlanta Braves

  • Odds to win the World Series: +2000
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +1000
  • Odds to win the division: +400
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +160 / No -190
  • Over/Under win total: 86
The Braves made the postseason last year as a young team and should threaten again. But Philadelphia made massive improvements, and Washington has to be hungry this time.

Washington Nationals

  • Odds to win the World Series: +1200
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +600
  • Odds to win the division: +200
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes -105 / No -115
  • Over/Under win total: 89
The close odds on making and not making the postseason says a lot about the split nature of this Nationals team.

Philadelphia Phillies

  • Odds to win the World Series: +1200
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +600
  • Odds to win the division: +200
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes EVEN / No -120
  • Over/Under win total: 89
Can we trust the Phillies to win after they made all of those acquisitions? It hasn’t been THAT long since the Phils won it all in 2008 and almost did it again the next year.

New York Mets

  • Odds to win the World Series: +2500
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +1200
  • Odds to win the division: +300
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +170 / No -200
  • Over/Under win total: 85.5
Syndergaard, deGrom & Company have certainly faded from their World Series season. Can they turn things around in 2019?

Miami Marlins

  • Odds to win the World Series: +200000
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +100000
  • Odds to win the division: +30000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +4000 / No -20000
  • Over/Under win total: 63.5
Derek Jeter is involved in a big way — but that’s not translating to wins this year.

Milwaukee Brewers

  • Odds to win the World Series: +1600
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +800
  • Odds to win the division: +250
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +150 / No -180
  • Over/Under win total: 86.5
The defending NL Central champs could pull off another surprise. They’ve been reasonably aggressive in free agency. But the Cubs and Cardinals might both have passed them by.

Chicago Cubs

  • Odds to win the World Series: +1200
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +600
  • Odds to win the division: +175
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes -110 / No -110
  • Over/Under win total: 87.5
Will Yu Darvish and Cole Hamels have solid years? Will Kyle Schwarber’s production rebound? The Cubs weren’t all that great last year — but still tied with the Brewers for victories in the senior circuit.

St. Louis Cardinals

  • Odds to win the World Series: +1200
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +600
  • Odds to win the division: +175
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes -110 / No -110
  • Over/Under win total: 88.5
Those numbers look an awful lot like the Cubs. Signing Paul Goldschmidt gave the Cardinals a jolt in their lineup — and they should give Chicago a run for their money.

Pittsburgh Pirates

  • Odds to win the World Series: +8000
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +4000
  • Odds to win the division: +2000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +500 / No -700
  • Over/Under win total: 78.5
Clint Hurdle’s bunch were sellers last year, as the Pirates look to rebuild. Cincinnati Reds
  • Odds to win the World Series: +8000
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +4000
  • Odds to win the division: +1500
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +425 / No -600
  • Over/Under win total: 79
Can Yasiel Puig stir the drink in Cincinnati?

National League West

Los Angeles Dodgers

  • Odds to win the World Series: +700
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: -450
  • Odds to win the division: -400
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes -1000 / No +650
  • Over/Under win total: 92.5
These numbers are crazy with Clayton Kershaw on the shelf.

Colorado Rockies

  • Odds to win the World Series: +2500
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +1200
  • Odds to win the division: +450
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +190 / No -240
  • Over/Under win total: 85.5
Nolan Arenado has the bat to lead the Rockies to a division title. I would jump on this wager while the numbers are skewed toward the Dodgers.

Arizona Diamondbacks

  • Odds to win the World Series: +8000
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +4000
  • Odds to win the division: +2500
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +600 /  No -900
  • Over/Under win total: 75.5
Yes, Arizona still has Zack Greinke — but that wasn’t enough even with Paul Goldschmidt in town.

San Francisco Giants

  • Odds to win the World Series: +10000
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +5000
  • Odds to win the division: +5000
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +900 / No -1600
  • Over/Under win total: 73.5
The Giants pushed hard in free agency but came away largely empty — and they may be selling Madison Bumgarner. That’s not the path to the postseason.

San Diego Padres

  • Odds to win the World Series: +10000
  • Odds to win the NL Pennant: +5000
  • Odds to win the division: +1500
  • Odds to make the playoffs: Yes +500 / No -700
  • Over/Under win total: 78.5
Manny Machado is the newest Padre, now that he’s signed a ten-year deal. Now the Padres have to build around him.
