Golf Betting Odds and Analysis for 2023 Farmers Insurance Open

Golf Betting Odds and Analysis for 2023 Farmers Insurance Open

Written by on January 24, 2023

Jon Rahm has been heating up the past few weeks, winning four tournaments in his last six starts in the DP World Tour and the PGA after his victory at the American Express. He is still stuck at #3 in the Official World Golf Ranking, which uses a system that he does not find to his liking. This should serve as a chip on his shoulder as he heads to the Farmers Insurance Open this week, and the sports betting odds reflect this as he is the clear favorite. A win at Torrey Pines could sink his odds even lower, perhaps near +250, for the Waste Management Phoenix Open. Let’s look at the contenders on the Golf Odds list, along with some suggestions for your wager cards.

In addition to his dominant play overall, Jon Rahm has finished no worse than seventh in his last five tournaments at Torrey Pines, including a 2021 victory at the U.S. Open. His ability to avoid trouble in the rough, combined with his elite shotmaking from the fairway, makes him a danger to win here.

Tony Finau missed the cut when he played Torrey Pines last year, but that seems more like an outlier than a trend. Before that, he finished no worse than 13th in four consecutive tournaments. He’s near the top of the odds list for a reason.

Xander Schauffele considers Torrey Pines his home course, but things didn’t start well for him here, as his first few starts were forgettable. However, since then, he has finished in the top 35 in four straight tournaments here. That’s not quite as solid as the others atop the list, so if you’re looking for a favorite or co-favorite to drop, Schauffele might be the one, especially with his recent back issues.

Sungjae Im is an interesting name because of the quick Poa grass that appears on the Torrey Pines greens. In this field, he ranks second on this surface, which runs quicker than many other grasses. In his last four tournaments at Torrey Pines, he has finished higher each time and is a definite threat to crack the top five, if not sneak away with first.

Jason Day has five finishes in the top 21 in his last six tournaments since the Shriners Open, but he remains a bit under the radar because of his struggles before that. That means a slight imbalance in the sports betting odds – and a chance for value for you. Another interesting dark horse is Maverick McNealy, who also remains below the radar despite the fact that he ranks in the top 25 in this field for scrambling and Strokes Gained: Total over his last 24 rounds in this field.

Justin Rose won the 2019 Farmers Insurance Open and has cracked the top eight here two other times since 2018. His current form has improved to begin 2023 in PGA play, so he is someone who could turn back the clock and snag another win, bringing a lot of wager value.
