2019 CFL Week 8 Odds, Preview & Picks

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats currently lead the Canadian Football League’s East Division with a record of 5-1, but the Montreal Alouettes (3-2) are the hottest team in the division right now, having turned an 0-2 start into a 3-2 record. Ottawa sits at 2-4, having fallen off the table after winning their first two contests of the season, while the hapless Toronto Argonauts are still looking for their first win heading into Week 8. In the West Division, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers finally took their first loss of the season in their last game to fall to 5-1, but they still lead the standings. Calgary and Edmonton are tied behind them at 4-2, while Saskatcehwan sits at 3-3. The British Columbia Lions have dropped three straight and have a record of 1-6. We have the schedule for CFL Week 8 as well as some thoughts about each matchup.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Toronto Argonauts

Toronto has a huge task before them with the 5-1 Blue Bombers coming to town. Toronto has yet to name a starting quarterback for this game, which is just one reason for the mammoth spread offered for this contest. Tailback James Wilder will miss the game for Toronto because of a lingering injury. Winnipeg will be looking for some redemption after their setback a week ago, and Toronto is an excellent target, as they have gone more than five quarters without an offensive touchdown. Final Score Prediction: Winnipeg 34, Toronto 13

Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan comes in on the momentum of a sweep over British Columbia, having won both games in a home-and-home. William Powell has been terrific running the ball, and Cody Fajardo has played well. The defense has done enough for the team to win. Hamilton has lost star quarterback Jeremiah Masoli, who blew out an ACL and saw his season come to an end — but the Tiger-Cats were still able to end Winnipeg’s dreams of an unbeaten season, despite the lackluster play of Dane Evans. Final Score Prediction: Saskatchewan 23, Hamilton 16

Friday, August 2

Ottawa Redblacks vs Montreal Alouettes

If Montreal can win, they would create a sizable gap (2 ½ games) between the two halves of the East Division standings and give the Alouettes a chance to host their first postseason game in five years. With Vernon Adams Jr under center, the Montreal offense should have the edge here. Ottawa looks to welcome Dominique Davis back at quarterback, which will help the Redblacks, as their offense struggled mightily without him against Calgary last week. Final Score Prediction: Montreal 27, Toronto 23

Saturday, August 3

Edmonton Eskimos vs Calgary Stampeders

Both teams enter this game at 4-2. Edmonton has struggled away from home, posting a 1-2 record while out of town, while Calgary has a 2-1 record both home and away. Calgary’s tailback situation is somewhat dubious, though, while Edmonton has more playmakers on both sides of the ball. Final Score Prediction: Edmonton 20, Calgary 16
